ARE YOU STILL HAPPY WITH THE NAME YOU CHOSE?

DD is now 9 weeks old and I'm really not sure about the name we've given her. It took three weeks to come up with a name and I felt very hormonal, disorganised and hassled at the time and enormous pressure from everyone to name her. We eventually chose a long name which can be shortened a variety of ways, but I'm increasingly unsure about it in all it's options.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? might it grow on me, or should I change it now before she learns it herself. How easy is it to change their name once registered? Does anyone have any suggestions, what I really wanted was a two syllable name ending in 'a'; like anna, or emma etc??

I had chosen DD's name from the beginning of the pregnancy so she had it from the moment she was born. But after a few months I started to seriously doubt my choice. It just didn't seem "her". Seriously thought about changing it but didn't. Now 18months on I so glad I didn't. I love her name now and feel she owns the name and not the other way round iyswim.

Amber I do think yuo should stand your ground on this one if you feel able and re-register her with the name YOU want.

(My dd is Ava btw, feel free to use it if you like it!)

i adore my dd's name and had it chosen before i was even pregnant.

BETHANY LEIGH

my parents and friends were not too keen, but have to admit now that it really suits her, plus thay have got lovely pet names for her out of it.

However, my new dp's last name, which Bethany leigh will take when the adoption goes through makes her sound like a porn star!!!

so as much as i love it, i do sometimes wish it was something else. luckily as she gets older i can see it being shortened to beth, so should not be too much of an issue.

im afraid i have no idea how easy it would be to change. my advice would be to investigate how easy it would be, cost etc and then if it is manageable then decide what name you like.

ps longer names like that could be annabella, isabella, or natasha.

i still love the name i gave dd but it is a very common name and i sometimes feel self concious telling people as they get that funny look and go 'oh, thats nice'. irritates me but we gave her an unusual middle name that she can use when she's older if she thinks her name is too common and for the minute she really does suit her name, and we still love it!

I have a Grace and an Alice and always get comments on them.

Grace was always going to be a Grace (if a girl) but Alice was going to be Mary until I saw her (bizarre but true).

Sometimes, it is more the people around you who make you realise that it wasn't the right name... only because they don't like it!!! I am sure that the name you have chosen is a wonderful one, but it is still new to you... When DD was born, my parents in law call her by her second name (because they didn't like her first nameShock, DH went mad and they have finally got use to her name. But I am the one who now call her by her second name (she is only 8 1/2 months old!). I am sure you will find the perfect name you want to call her without changing it on the register!!! All the BestSmile

How about Hannah? Ok so it's a "H" not "A" but it's a silent one, and it's two syllables?
Hope you like the name you finally choose!
Good Luck.

I really like DD's name, Mollie, and it does really suit her. Dh actually choice it way before her birth.

In your circumstances I'd stick to my guns - go with the name you want and like!

I like my sons name - Oscar (granted he is only 6weeks) it really suits him too but most of my family hate it, particularly mum which made me doubt it a little but I'm glad I have switched off from their opinions because I have started loving it again.

Love Ava - I wanted Ava May for a girl if we had one.

My story's like Bobalina's, chosen name from the beginning and she was just named that at birth... from the very beginning it didn't feel right.

She is now nearly 3, and although she does suit her name, I do look at her with a pang of regret sometimes and see Jennifer (the name that I felt she should have been when she was born....).

If you feel it is wrong, then change it.

This time we had some "possible" names, but nothing set in stone - he came out and fitted one perfectly.

My daughter's name Maya, which has various meanings in Indian culture, but predominantly means "illusion". also a very common Russian name, I believe.
