Help with my 9 month old

My baby boy is a week under 9 months and I need some ideas to help stop his massive interest in the stairs and tables. He has learnt to climb the stairs we have put the stair gate up but its not stopping him doing the first step and then falling. Also he has this great interest in the tv table??
He's able to stand and walk around the table etc... they all have protection etc but just wondering if this is a pahse and he will get bored of it cos Im worried soon he's gonna do himself a real injury. He has lots of toys, books etc but he is not interested one bit in any of these he either wants the stairs or tv.
A friend suggested a walker but Im not sure if these are good for them or not? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. ( we are open plan so the stairs are in the living room so cant shut the door on them )

My MIL taught ds to climb down the stairs and my Auntie taught every single one of the kids she had in her nursery to climb down stairs. In the long run it will be more useful that pulling him away.

We put a footrest in front of the Tv table.

If my ds (now 13 months) is anything to go by it will get worse.... :o!

Good idea to teach him to climb down the stairs. We taught ds to climb off our bed safely at about 6 months, he does the same with the stairs (although we have stair gates).

What is wrong with the TV? You think he could pull it on top of himself? If he keeps turning it on and off then unplug it.

If something fascinates him let him play with it until he gets bored. Its like his toys, he will just move on to something else. You get quite inventive with ways to make thing safe.

We had exactly the same problem. Walkers are great because simply being upright seems to be satisfying for them. The wheel fell off our one and so he didn't move around in it but if you have a nice open-plan layout and can make everything reachable safe, then I'd let him wheel away.
