10 month old grinding his (very few) teeth - sending me bananas. Anyone else had this?

ds is 10 months. he's got six teeth and i think a couple more on the way.

over the last couple of weeks he has started grinding his teeth (when cross, when tired, when playing, when feeling like grinding his teeth a bit). i absolutely hate the noise (think fingernails on blackboards) but saying no doesn't seem to help.

i'm not even sure he knows he's doing it.

any advice (or failing that, people to tell me it's a very, very short phase that they go through)?

is is a phase! One of mine used to do it. It's awful though isn't it?

It's a short phase. Partly because they're getting used to having something new in their mouths, partly (so I once heard a dentist say)because they need to make the surface smooth, get rid of irregularities, and get their "bite" correct.

DD2 nearly 2 has gone through this phase a couple of times and it drives me wild. The last time she did it she woulf grind eveytime she talked.

Used to set my teeth on edge but it is only a phase.

DD2 has actually worn away the corner of one of her front teeth by grinding.

thanks for all the replies. a few months, though - aaarrggh.

tegan - yours is even more worrying, thinking that it might stop and then come back. does it come when your dd is teething?

any thoughts other than saying "don't do that, sweetheart" through progressively more gritted teeth?

lummox,DD2 is the same age as your ds & she is doing the same thing. It is horrible & makes me shudder.I've no idea why she does it,dd1 never did,but then again,dd2 does a lot of things her sister never did.

If you get him to stop, please let me know how Smile
