Weaning problems in 6 month old

Hello

I wonder if anyone has had this problem, can reassure me it gets better, or offer some advice.

My little boy is 6 months old, and I've been trying to gradually introduce solids for about a month now. However, he hates it, clamps his mouth shut and ends up screaming. I don't think it's the taste he objects to - just the whole concept of food from anything other than a breast! I've tried different foods (sweet, savoury, plain baby rice), different spoons, different places in the house, different seats, distraction toys, music, singing, smiling, opening my own mouth - you name it, I've tried it!

Has anyone else experienced this? Will it get better??

Thanks,
Rachel

is it the idea of a spoon he hates? What if he has finger food or you give him bits with your finger? A spoon can be a bit nasty after being used to being fed from a nice soft warm breast! dt1 isn't keen on spoons at all, and I have to be careful to to put it too far in his mouth, plus it has to be a very small one or he won't eat!

Have you tried giving him a bottle/cup?
Maybe he's just used to food being booby!
Perhaps it's the whole concept of "I won't have it if it's not mummy"
I'd try him on a cup or bottle with expressed milk, to see if he'll feed from that, then once he's accepted that, try spoons again.

Good luck anyway, whatever you do Smile

Was going to say try finger food or 'spooning' in with your finger. Is he ready? Does he show interest in you eating food? Do you try feeding him when he has just had a bottle/breast or maybe he is too hungry when you try solids. Dunno - just some ideas.

My DS2 was like this. I only started trying to give solids at around 6 months, and he just wasn't interested.

He eventually accepted a bit of dahl, but I gave up and moved him straight to finger foods. It's much easier, anyway.

Please try not to turn food into a battle at this point, whatever you do. Offer food, once in a while, and give up quick if it upsets him.
