Can your 5/6 yr old skip ??

No. Not for want of trying, though! She is five and has just mastered skipping with one leg, but not the other. Looks odd, but she thinks she's doing it and is happy.
6year old learnt when she was four. I don't think you can teach it though

Just wondered because Dd is apparently the only one that couldn't do it in p.e the other day.

She kind of skips and jumps, seems to get confused with which leg she needs to move.

I don't know I guess he does sort of skip around the room at home - but not really paid much attention so could be completely wrong.

DD is 6.10 and can skip, she learned from her friends at school as they could all skip during PE and she couldn't. DS 3.7 has recently started skipping, he does it as though his legs are made of wood, they don't bend at the knee!

DD is 4.10, and has been able to skip for about 2 months. She was taught how at school in ballet class....not exactly ballet, but there we are....

Dd1 tried to show her but she just cannot get it.

I laughed lots which probably didn't help, but it was so very funny.

TBH I thought she was making it up and doing it silly on purpose, so I told her she could have 10p if she did it the very best she could .....it was still awful.

i want to skip down the road for no reason, i havent skipped in years. dd1 can skip pretty well. in fact its like she is flying lol.

I don't think I know any other kids her age that can't, and know plenty of younger ones that can too.

o no another bad mummy moment - I havent the faintest idea if dd can skip or not, cos Ive never checked

dd is 6 and can skip but has been dancing for 4 years. Doesn't get it from her mother, don't think I could skip even now

Dd1 could definatly skip at the same age, but then she did ballet too.

I don't think dd2 could skip at that age. She didn't master going down stairs one foot after another rather than one step at a time until she was gone 5, maybe 6yo. But it came eventually, though she'll never be an athlete!

dt's are 6 and they can skip but one of them has only just got it properly.
Nothing funnier than a kid trying to skip but doing it wrong

I know we are not supposed to laugh but I couldn't help myself when she was practising.

both my kids could skip by 4 and my mindee is learning now ,shes nearly got it shes 3.5yrs,

DS1 only learned to do it at just over 6 - just couldn't get it. DS2 learned at about 3y9months, which was amazing for me as I'd watched DS1 struggle with it!

Ds is 5 and has just mastered skipping with one leg - he's convinced he's doing it! Up to a few weeks ago, he did a sort of sideways gallop and thought that that was skipping. Like Jasnem'dd, he's happy.

Like lots of other things that I have tried to teach him but he just didn't 'get', he learnt it at school. I don't know wether he was taught - I suppose it's something to do with seeing other children doing it.
