Are you looking for typical Germanic names, or names popular at present in Germany?

I know of a little boy called Malin. Its apparently a girls name in Scandanavia, but think it works well as a boys name too.

MmeLindt do you consider Killian to be Germanic then? I love the name (definitely on the list if we ever need another list!) but I would have thought it was Irish/Gaelic?

I also like
Jochen
Torben
Corbin
Linus
Tomas

DH is Stephan
BILs are Christian and Florian

Well, I don't have favourite Scand/Germanic boys' names - I have just have those names I have heard of.

I know of a half-Finnish boy called Jaakko, which I think is a lovely name.

Oops - except that Finland's not in Scandanavia!

You are right actually, it is Irish. I think of it as being German as it is used quite a lot in my DH's hometown due to the fact that Irish monks settled there.

Oh blimey, I can confirm the popularity of most of the names on Sophiesmummie's list. It's like a class register of every nursery or group my kids have been in. Julius and Constantin are going to be the posh kids, Marcel and Marco aren't.

I nearly fell over in disbelief the first time I heard a dad at the playground calling 'Tsehd-reek' (Cedric)

Kilian as a name I can handle, but I draw the line at the abbreviation 'Kili' - not only is it a bit too close to kill, it's also the German word for tickle.

My favourite silly German name of all time has to be Bodo. Makes me smile every time, which can of course be embarrassing if you're being introduced to the Bodo in question.

Please don't call your ds Karl-Heinz, Wolfgang or Siegfried - they're the equivalent of Cuthbert or Walter, ie old men's names
