Brodie for Boy? May for Girl?

Hi, first time posting but I have read through baby name posts with interest as everyone has been very honest and forthright.

Due in 7 weeks and think we have finalised names -

boy - Brodie Alexander

girl - May Frances

I would like opinions please as I want to keep our choices secret from the family until we have the baby. I get nervous choosing names.

I like May Frances. Not so sure about Brodie tbh, sounds a bit American. Alexander is nice though!

I like May Frances, too. Brodie I'm not keen on at all. To me it doesn't sound very masculine because it reminds me of things like Broderie Anglaise (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broderie_Anglaise). I would prefer something like Brendan Alexander.

Brodie sounds like a dopey surfer type from Home & Away i.e. not good.

I'm in Scotland. Picked Brodie because it is Scottish and I thought it was unusual. DH likes it, we can't agree on any other names.

Love May Frances, not keen on Brodie at all though. Think Alexander nice though

I was desperate to call one of ds's Brodie but dp wouldn't go for it. Think it's a fab name.
May doesn't seem nearly as interesting tbh. Something a bit more celtic maybe?

I've got a Brodie! it was a bit of a last minute decision for us, but i've been so happy with it. i wanted something Scottish but not too popular, and something that people knew what i was saying first time, after giving dd a slightly unusual Celtic name that i always have to repeat.
i'm Scottish but living in England and have never come across another one.

May is a pretty name, and makes a nice change for it to be used as a first instead of a middle name (ubiquitous).

Frances is nice as a middle name.

I think as you're Scottish you can get away with Brodie. And can't go wrong with Alexander.

hi, thanks. I feel better about the names we've chosen. Don't know why but I get nervous that I'm choosing a name that will have people rolling eyes behind my back or could get the baby teased later in life.
Yes, baby due in May but May also means 'the youngest daughter' in Chinese. We have a dd called Elizabeth nn Beth. Thought it went well. As does Beth and Brodie?

I know a girl Brodie and a boy Brody. I think it's better and less feminine with the Y rather than ie ending. Like May.
