I've decided on Remy Alexander for ds2 to go along with Ellis James(ds1).
Was wondering though what peoples views are on Beau?

do you absolutely HAVE to have chosen before he arrives? would you not be better have a few names to try out on him before picking the best one? we had a couple that we liked for all our DDs and waited until we met her before we chose

I don't like it because of the meaning. Calling a boy "beautiful" sounds a bit to be

SqueezyB · 29/03/2010 17:01

I don't really like either, sorry. Beau seems a bit made-up, though I know it's Emma Bunton's son's name.

Perhaps Alexander Beau? It has a nice meaning for a middle name.

Beau is lovely, but I hope you're not getting all wobbly about Remy????

Report
AllieW · 29/03/2010 18:29

Not really keen. It reminds me of this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beau_Geste which may or may not be a good association for you.

Don't like Beau - not for a human child anyway!

Mathanxiety-still love Remy was just wondering if Beau sounded better and wondered what everyone else thought of the name!

Thanks AllieW for that link!

Oh and thanks for reminding me that it's Emma Bunton's childs name.I wonder if it's Beau Jones or Beau Bunton?

Thanks for feedback everyone

I was a bit when I found someone naming their baby GIRL beau quite recently... And, of course, it doesn't mean beautiful, it means handsome!

My (then) hairdresser had a two year old female Beau years ago. I wondered whether she was a Scandinavian Bo but, nope, the name was Beau.

Yes I've heard a of a few girl Beaus.Think it should be for boys only!!
Of course there is Bo for a girl..doesn't Ulrika have it?She can get away with it though as she's Swedish

It will be spelt wrong!

I like it, but I like Remy better. I generally like your taste in names, though.

Beau's a great name. I know an adult and a toddler named Beau. The adult I went to school with and I can't imagine anybody not knowing the correct spelling for it. Certainly it didn't cause him problems.

It means handsome. Belle means beautiful.

what's wrong with calling a boy beautiful? My boys are beautiful

god even adjectives come in pink and blue these days

Report
Greensleeves · 30/03/2010 18:24

Beau and Belle both mean beautiful, handsome is just a synonym some people prefer when referring to male human beings

Report
ShowOfHands · 30/03/2010 18:39

Actually I agree Greeny. I stand corrected! I was referring more to the French use of masculine/feminine. Il est beau and elle est belle. Not interchangable, same meaning though. Just a different gender.

But I do see no problem with a boy being called beautiful at all. Or a girl handsome for that matter.
