Better than Jared (which will always be Toady from Neighbours surely?)

Prefer Jared... I've never heard of Jarret. The way it's spelt reminds me of ferret for some reason.

Isn't he the Goblin King played by David Bowie in Labyrinth?

That was my first thought, however the name is nice in a 90's/Aussie sort of way.

Our local electrical shop is called Adams & Jarrett so that's what came to mind for me.

I do like Jett though. Wasn't that the name of John Travolta's son who died?

It is really really pretty and quite timeless.

Have you considered Marrett?

Jared is a form of Gareth I think. I prefer that. I knew a Red growing up, so i doesn't seem too odd to me. (Red was short for Jared).

Jared is a biblical name. Also, very country and western imo.

Jarret is nicer than Jared, I think. But I prefer Garret and Gareth.

Not keen and I don't think it goes with James really.

Jared is slightly better.
