Emory and Mocara

Mocara, which apparently is Scottish and means 'my friend', for a girl

I haven't heard of either of them before but somehow on reading them I would have put the genders the other way around.

I'm Scottish, lived in Scotland almost all my life, kids are gaelic speakers, and I have never, ever heard of Mocara. Weird name.

Mo = my in gaelic but Cara is not the word for friend.

Sounds made up, or at least very contrived ....

Both names are very odd and I wouldn't know the sex of either.

Conider that your child will probably want to fit in. I would choose a name with an obvious gender and I would choose something with a straightforward spelling.

Cara is actually the Irish word for friend but I have never heard the name Mocara. In fact Mocara would be incorrect grammatically as the possessive "mo" would change "cara" to "chara" so it would be Mochara.

Emory is a university somewhere in Georgia.
And what Ludog says about Mocara is right. I think the name Mochara Bhui comes up as a joke in one of Brian O Nuallain's (Flann O'Brien) books -- either The Poor Mouth or The Hard Life.

Emory/Emery is a legitimate name - I have a feeling it's from the Middle Ages. However, given the preponderance of girls' names like Emily and Emma, I think many people would mistakenly think it to be a girl's name.

I haven't heard of Mocara and I'm not especially keen, I'm afraid, sorry. I'd expect people to make stupid jokes about "Mocara won't start" etc. I would prefer something like Mairi.
