Same here - Antonia is classy and timeless, Toni is bleuch. Perhaps not inevitable though, you could use Annie or Nia and hopefully everyone else would follow suit.

I knew an Antonia at school, don't remember her being called Toni but it was 25 years ago. It's a beautiful name.

I have an Antonia! She has never been called anything but Antonia.
Obviously I love it and we don't know any others.
So no Tonis,Annas etc.
inevitable at all.

I think it's quite boring (sorry) becaue I have known a lot of them and always found it a bit old fashioned, but most used the full Antonia rather than Toni.

I'm an Antonia! Pretty much everyone calls me Nia but not because I hate Antonia, just because I find it easier - it's nice to have the option of a few different short versions I think, and no-one calls me Toni because I make it clear what I want to be called! I still use Antonia for everything formal. When I was younger I used to find some people thought of it as a 'posh' name (I'm not!) but that was the only thing I didn't like about it. I like having a slightly unusual name. Be warned, though - my mum can't stand Nia and yours might decide she'd really like to be called Toni!

I used to know an Antonia who was called Tonni. Which actually is probably worse than Toni so I haven't been very helpful have I. She was lovely and very pretty though, and really suited her name.
