Expecting a baby boy in May. DH and I have narrowed it down to our final 5. I'd be grateful for any comments (good or bad ):

Tobias
Quentin
Benedict
Sebastian
Oscar

We have Tobias high up on our shortlist too, think its a lovely name.

Benedict is also nice but we cannot use.

Of your list feel that Oscar is the more modern of your choices...very current. I like it but maybe put off by popularity.

I like Sebastian (although less keen on Seb) and Quentin (shortened to Quin).

I love Quentin (but am biased as have one ). Often gets called Quinn.

Benedict and Sebastian also lovely. Oscar is perhaps a little more 'now' and may date more than the others.

They are all very nice in their long forms.

Much prefer Tobias, Benedict and Sebastian to Toby, Ben and Seb.

Tobias - I really like this. Would probably get shortened to Toby?
Quentin - not so keen.
Benedict - Really like this too, but would probably be Ben (which I still like - traditional but nice)
Sebastian - I love this name. I love Seb.
Oscar - Perhaps a bit too 'popular' at the moment. BUT, my dd has a name which is too popular for my liking, but we loved it so she got it anyway!

Benedict, Sebastian and Quentin are lovely.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I guess the long names (Benedict, Sebastian and Tobias) will inevitably get shortened, won't they. Is Oscar really that 'commonn/trendy'? I love it, but wouldn't want a name that will date badly. And is Quentin too associated with Quentin Tarantino for some?

oscar is getting quite popular. love sebastian and tobias.

quentin is nice as a middle name... wouldn't use it as a first name, makes me think of george's dad in the famous five

All lovely names. Agree that Oscar has shot up the popularity ranks recently so may date more than the others, which have a more classic, timeless feel to them. I really like Quentin, but I know a gorgeous 3 year old.

Benedict. Fab name - and Ben is good too.

It's all relative isn't it? Oscar seems much more popular because it was really rare five or ten years ago. But, compared to Oliver and Jack, I'd imagine it is way down the popularity tables.

We named our dd Freya, which is probably what you'd call trendy. But I have loved the name since childhood and we both liked it so we decided that we'd use it anyway. And just hope it doesn't totally drop of the name map in another 5 or 10 years. Oscar is at least a more traditional name than Freya!

Unless you love the shortened forms of Benedict, Sebastian and Tobias (Ben, Seb and Toby), I wouldn't choose them because they WILL be shortened.

To me, Oscar is still a dogs' name, but that's because our neighbours have one.

Quentin is nice, it seems to be becoming more popular. Not too long, so doesn't have to be shortened.

For once, I actually like every name on someone's list. What good taste you have, OP!
