Which do you prefer and why?

I like both. Mainly because I love the shortened versions of both: Ted (don't like Ed or Eddie) and Freddie. Actually, when I think about it, Freddie might just clinch it for me

Frederick. I like Edward though. Frederick is just a bit quirkier. Classic but, well Freddie Windsor or Edward Windsor, that sums it up!!!

My nephew is Freddie but registered as Frederick. It's lovely and really suits him. Prefer it to Edward definitely.

I didn't like either - but we had an Eddie and a Freddy in the reception class last year and they were both lovely little boys and you do get used to the names. I would probably put the long name on the BC and threaten death to anyone that used them though!! (I'd only put the long name on so that as adults they could choose - esp if they are lawyers of something as the nic names don't really have any 'weight' behind them!). Depending on your surname, of the two I'd go with Freddie

Don't like either, but always imagine Fredericks to be a bit Norman Batesy.

I have an Edward so you can tell which I am going to prefer.... he's Edward / Ted / Tedder at home but Ed / Eddie at school.

I do like Fred / Freddie too though - I would suggest you wait and see what he looks like when he arrives! Less keen on 'Frederick' - it's a bit of a mouthful.

I don't really like either, I'm afraid. But if I had to choose one, it would be Frederick.

I love both of those, but Frederick has the edge for me.

One of my dcs has Edward as a middle name.

Freddie is my absolute favourite boys name but I gave it to the dog when I thought we'd never manage to have dcs, then regretted it when ds1 came along (dh was all for calling ds1 or ds2 Freddie anyway ).
Freddies are always fun and handsome and have a glint in their eye.

Edward definitely.

Thanks. I just can't decide between the two!

Something tells me that Freddie is a naughty boys name though. But I do prefer Freddie to Eddie..

Fred just makes me think straightaway of Fred West.

Edward - as long as the nn is Ted/Teddy/Ned and not Ed/Eddie

Edward, but I must say I do not like Ed or Eddie.

(Feel I can say this righteously as I have a Ted/Teddy..comes from Edmund though, and I would harpoon the first to call him ED/EDDIE..with obvious apologies to parents of Ed/Eddie reading this

I like them both. Edward probably marginally more than Frederick but there's not much in it.
