Baby names

Please help me decide on baby name

I really am finding it difficult deciding on baby names. We don't know if we are having a boy or girl.

If we have a boy, Edward will be middle name after a family member. Let me know what you think of my shortlist

Joshua Edward,
Sanford Edward,
Joshua Sanford Edward,
Harrison Edward,
Cole Edward
Hugo Edward

Here are the girls names

Felicity Olivia,
Olivia Felicity,
Livia,

Help help help, I feel like I'm going around in circles. Thanks

Joshua Edward-Joshua Ok but overly used.
Sanford Edward- No, Sanford sounds like a made up American name.
Joshua Sanford Edward-see above
Harrison Edward- harrison a bit naff imo.
Cole Edward-No to Cole, think Ashley and just don't like the sound.
Hugo Edward-Like Hugo, love Hugh more.

Here are the girls names

Felicity Olivia_felicity nice
Olivia Felicity-Olivis nice but over used
Livia-will be presumed short for Olivia.

Olivia and Livia are very popular (I prefer slightly unusual). Felicity is pretty, will get called Flick.

All boys names are lovely except I am not keen on Cole / Hugo / Harrison myself.

Sanford is wonderful - would probably get called Sandy (is he likely to have blonde hair?)

Sanford Edward is maybe too many d's at end, but, people don't use middle names much so not likely to be a problem. I would never dare, but I think it is lovely.

Joshua is ridiculously popular and sounds very noughties. It's just all over the place and has stopped sounding nice and is ubiquitous. Meh.

Harrison and Cole are surname names and are naff.

Sanford is very American and surnamey.

Hugo's a great name, as is Edward.

Olivia/Livia also ridiculously popular and 'now'.

Felicity is okay but the 3 I know are all called 'Flick' and I don't like that either.

I like Harrison, but none of your girl's names

My fave name is Hugo but my DH does not like it, he says it is a fat boys name?!

My fave girls name is Felicity but I don't want her to be called Flick. I have a DD Chloe, and people always call her Chlo which is soooo annoying.

I will perhaps throw Harry into the mix but it is another too popular name. Oh I just don't know. Help help.

I love Hugo.
If you don't mind about using a popular name then I really like Olivia but Felicity is nice and not neccessarily nicknamed Flick, I think Lissy is a nicer nn.
The others are not to my taste at all sorry.

Lol at hugo being a fat boys name!
It makes me think of a strong fisherman in a chunky jumper.

Joshua Edward, LIKE BUT TOO POPULAR
Sanford Edward DISLIKE, REMINDS ME OF A UNIVERSITY
Joshua Sanford Edward, DISLIKE SANFORD
Harrison Edward, LIKE THIS ALOT

Hugo Edward REALLY DISLIKE

Here are the girls names

Felicity Olivia, DISLIKE, TOO 'PRETTY'
Olivia Felicity, LIKE BUT FAR TOO POPULAR
Livia, DISLIKE, SOUNDS LIKE MISSED THE O OFF FOR OLIVIA

How about Libby instead of Livia???

Not keen on any of your boys names but it is your baby so it is your decision.

Love all your girls' names but the only one of your boys' names I like is Edward. sanford is horrible imho, sorry.

I'd go for Hugo or Harrison from your list of boys' names and Felicity Olivia from the girls' list. I know of a Felicity who goes by Fizzy/Fizz and have also heard of Lissie as a nn.

Like Joshua & Hugo-(also like Arlo, MIlo & Jethro)

Sanford and Cole are Sunset Beach names. The others are nice.

Livia and Joshua Edward the nicest.

I like Hugo, Cole and Livia from your list.

Sanford is also the charter airport In Orlando.

Too American - unless you are American - as is Cole.

Hugo only works if your child will go to private school and have long floppy hair. If you call him Harrison you will have to have his ear pierced by the times he's 5.......
Which leaves Joshua - great name - whatever he does and at all ages, I think.

I'm not sure about the girls names as they don't shorten well.

Cole is pretty American, but I think of it in relation to the Irish name Colman. Sanford sounds to me like a bathroom fixtures manufacturer, tbh.

I like Liv as nn for Livia or Olivia.

My only piece of advise is please visit a nursery or infant school beforehand. If (like me) you have not been near either for years (or decades) then it will be quite an eye opener. Lots and lots of names the same. Good Luck

Hugo is nice, prefer Hugh. No to the other boys names.

Olivia is lovely despite being so popular. No to the other girls.

You might try saying these combinations aloud. I think some of them are a bitdifficult to say.

2 vowel sounds together are more difficult to say than a consonant and a vowel together.

That's why "Joshua Edward" is harder to say than "Edward Joshua".

I like both Felicity and Olivia but think Felicity Olivia seems too much of a mouthful.

Like Hugo and Edward for a boy.
Also like Sanford but it does sound as if he must attend private school, have blond hair and then go on to study at Harvard university where he will meet Helen, his future wife.

houseworkhater · 27/02/2010 22:38

Op-I don't imagine Hugo to be fat-quite the opposite!

Harrison or Cole if it's blue
Felicity Oliva if pink....
