Boys name that goes with Arthur?

BettyButterknife · 25/02/2010 19:12

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and I think I'm having another boy.

DH and I are really really struggling to find any boys names we like.

DS1 is Arthur, which we chose because it's classic but not that popular (yet), most people are aware of it, can spell it etc, and I like the sound it makes - not too harsh.

Can anyone suggest a similar name? I don't really want anything too common-place, so Harry/James/William etc are out.

The only name we can agree on is Ted, but neither of us like the full names Edward/Edgar/Edmund/Theodore.

My grandad was Arthur George and I know you don't mean a middle name that goes with Arthur but I always think they go together well as sibling names too.

Others:
Hamish
Angus
Benedict
Stanley
Peter
Joseph
Henry

Hmm how about

Robert
Hector
Howard
John
Christopher
Timothy

I immediately thought William though, sorry!

I do like George and Hector, and Stanley too. Joseph, Henry and Ben are all names of DH's family so can't use those.

There are some names I really can't imagine a child of mine with - Robert, Peter or John fall into that category. They just seem a bit too, well, ordinary.

I know I'm setting myself up for a fall but I feel like the perfect name is out there, I just have to find it. Logically I know that's not true though!

My never to be 3rd child would have been Felix Arthur if I had had him! I think the two names go together perfectly and both are not common, but not too unusual either...

Dennis and Eric and Stanley have the same "old man's name coming back into fashion" feel to me.

Otherwise for Middle Ages legend type names suggest Gawain or Geoffrey (Lancelot a bit out there).

Edward and Henry totally go with Arthur too, Henry VIII's older brother was called Arthur and his son with Jane Seymour was called Edward.

Could Ted also be short for Edwin if you like this?

My dad was Arthur Stanley...
His brother was Albert.. (maybe an old name too far...?)
DS is William Arthur.

I think George works really well?

Agree with you on Ted - love the name, but can't find a longer name I like. Also like Ned, but ditto.

Good luck.

I have a Henry and an Arthur.

Arthur's middle name is Montgomery which could be worth considering - with Monty as a NN.

My boy is called Horus Patrick Arthur *, but personaly i would have rather it was round the other way.. Arthur Patrick, seems to have a nice flow off the tongue, but then arthur is a very powerful name anyway, any name that follows it will carry a certain amount of weight with it.

I like Albert too (or Bertram!) Bertie as NN. Or Frederick (NN Freddie)

My DS1 is Arthur Richard, and am 34 weeks pregnant with DS2 who is going to be Wilf
(Nicebumbum you and I clearly have very similar tastes!!)

Other names we've considered for DS2 are:

Felix
Henry
George
Monty (Montague or Montgommery)
Albert (to be called Alby or Bertie))
Seth
Jasper
Frederick

but I've always had my heart set on Wilf and have only recently browbeaten persuaded DH to agree to it so am not giving him any other choices!
