Hi. Have just had a baby girl who is 3 weeks old. My Hubby decided to name her Cerys louise, when she was born. I am unsettled on the name, wondered if anyone had any thoughts?
Love the name, just worried it wil be shortened to Ceri (which I don;t like! no offence meant) or Ces. Have spoken to 2 Cerys' and they have never had there shortened?? opinions. My other option is Carrie?? but my hubby prefers Cerys' especailly because it means love. ARRRGGHH. Help.
thanks x

I think Cerys is lovely and have never heard it shortened so I would go with that if you both like it.

Hi there. Thanks for replying. We are not in wales, or Welsh which is why I concerned??? my mum is Glenys so thought a welsh name was nice. Ciara is my other daughters name. x Just really don;t like Ceri. (have lots of friends with name, just not what i'd choose. Its so difficult. x

Your husband named the child? Did you not discuss?

I have not met a shortened Cerys. Do you love the middle name? You could always use that if you prefer.

Personally I think it's lovely.

Cerys getting very popular (we considered it for DD). I have seen it shortened to Ceri which is a unisex name in Wales. Howabout the very similar Carys shortened to Cari (therefore similar to your choice of Carrie)

Yes we discussed names, there was Cerys, Cienna and thats about it. We really though we were having a boy. When midwife asked my husband, he instantly choose Cerys Louise(louise being my middle name) and I feel awful that I am so unsettled on it. ITs on all her documents, and we registered her last week, although havebeen told can change it up to 3 months. I love it if it def not shortened. x

Hi, One of our close friends daughters is Carys, so think thats a no no. My husband says Cerys sounds softer and is nicer.. what a dilemma. its such an important decision.

Am Welsh and have never heard Cerys shortened to anything but Cer, and that would only really be if calling from another room for example - in the same way that Sarah might get shortened to Sar. It's not really a nickname. I wouldn't worry about it.

I really like Cerys. DH and I are both Welsh (though live in England), and DH vetoed all Welsh names for DCs (Tried not to be offended as both my names are very Welsh!)

DH would have put an extra veto on Cerys though as he detests Catatonia!

Love it!

much prefer it to Carrie.

I think you have to stick to full name, correct others if it really bothers you, then come school/teenage, she might have a totally unrelated nn.

I prefer Carys TBH but Cerys is nice too ( nicer than Carrie )

It prob will be shortened to "Cer" by her friends at some point

but then most names are shortenable ( is that a word ? lol)but so long as you don't shorten it,and if others do set them straught...
