It is not an acceptable first name.

I haven't heard of any boys named Melrose before, but I don't see why it can't be a name. Nothing offensive or strange sounding about it, is there?

Is it Scottish?

My DD has a friend called Melissa, shortened to Milly.

For a boy or a girl?

Reminds me of the terrible girl off America's Next Top Model who was called Melrose and a complete bitch. Also Melrose Place - trashy American soap. It also sounds like the name of a business rather than a person to me.

So that'd be a no from me then

Oh yes that awful top model woman! She made up the name melrose as her real name was not "original" enough (think it was melody rose or something like that.

Awful made up name IMHO.

Not in the least bit convinced, sorry. Too much like a surname and too American-sounding for my taste as well. Melanie or Melissa hyphenated with Rose might not be too bad. You could then have Mel-Rose as a nickname.

Melrose is a town in the Borders. Why would you want to call a child that - unless you're doing a Beckham and conceived it there...

small town in the borders rather than a name
