Muslim / English names

My friend is having her second child and needs a name which fits in with Muslim (the dad) and English (my friend).

She is not sure the sex of the child so both sets please.

My friend is the same. They called their little boy Danyaal, Danny for short. It suited them both as it was the spelling he approved of. Was this the sort of thing she was thinking?

Does her DH want an Arabic name, is so any of the old testament names would do they usually have their arabic equivalent.

Muslim names can be anything, so long as they have a good meaning.

keiran is nice and i think ok for either sex, i know its female in some indian cultures

also rucksana with sounds like roxanna but more aaana than anna sound on the end

my friends called their english/indian baby boy ajay which is pronounced adj ay rather than ay jay

Old Testament will be fine too. Doesn't need to be arabic per se.

My friend who is married to a Muslim called their little girl Eliza - apparently it works in both cultures, which I didn't expect, it always seems so quintessentially costume-drama English.

Her DD has a more arabic sounding name than old testament. So not sure if she wants to match it.

I think Adam is beautiful actually, it would have been one of my boy names if I ever have boys.

I've heard Eliza as well, but it's pronounced Eleeza.

My family are from Cyprus so I too needed a name that would work in different cultures. Perhaps that's why I am trying to help my friend.

My friend has boys called Hardy and Haris, apparently they are islamic names! Ali, Adam, Zacharias, are a few that jump to mind, or Miriam, Sara, Sarah, Zara, Zaina, Laila, Karima, Samira, oh loads for girls! (can you tell I wanted a girl?)

In the end I decided not to limit boys names to 'crossover' names and we went with Anwar which means 'light', because I liked it and it is easy enough to pronounce and read.

Dh and I are both muslim and we named our dd Saara. We spelt it double a so people wouldn't call her Sarah which i have found in people named Sara
