Middle name for Alexander

Hi

I think we are heading towards Alexander as our first name choice .... there isn't anything else DH and I agree on!

So, comments on:

Alexander Noah Mac...(2 syllable scottish name)
Alexander Jonah Mac...
Alexander Joel Mac...

Any other ideas? Doubt the name will be much used but so many we like are in current family use.

I'd go for something one syllable, since he's got quite a few to play with elsewhere.

Douglas (Ok I am abandoning my one syllable idea clearly!)

I actually don't think it matters if a middle name is in use elsewhere in the family - it's quite sweet, says you liked the name/person, but without giving it as a first name.

I quite like using a family name for the middle name so maybe reconsider those family ones!

we have an Alexander Victor (the Victor is for my Grandad who never got to meet him) which works

Douglas is nice.... except that it means "from the dark water" which spoiled it for me 5 years ago.

We have an Alexander Philip, the Philip is after my Dad but actually I think they work really well together but would be a little old-fashioned for some. Seeing as it would be his middle name would you consider using a relatives first name it's quite a complementary thing to do.

Have to say I'm a bit biased by name meanings too ... we've lots of family James' but I can't get past the meaning of 'supplanter/deceiver'.

I like Finn and Theo too but DH doesn't.

We had a family middle name all lined up for a girl, but the sonographer seemed quite sure of gender. DH's male side of the family are traditionally named for father/grandfather/uncle so there are a few names used over and over. DH doesn't want to give his name and choosing one of the others in current use would be a tad political ....

DD has a middle name from my side so we want to have one from his side if family linked at all - otherwise it might look like playing favourites!
