Anyone else having close-to-due-date name angst?

We spend the first 12 or so weeks tentatively suggesting names to each other, and sometimes laughing at each other's suggestions (I recall Dp coming out with What about Jason? and me just staring at him) ... some time around the middle trimester, we agreed on a girl's name we both loved, and just before Christmas we settled on a boy's name too. The names don't have any particular significance, we just like them.
We haven't revealed the names to anyone at all, so they haven't really been talked about anywhere, including between us - it's kind of been 'that's that, then'.

I'm now starting to waiver towards other names, with only 2 weeks to go! I think it's due to starting Mat leave, and spending too much time on MN baby name threads!

I'm also worried about having the baby, and in a post-birth drug-filled (hopefully) haze, saying 'sod it, let's call him/her....' and then thinking, what was I thinking?!
Did anyone else experience this kind of thing??

I decided our second baby's name 4 hours before going into labour! We called him Jacob. However he's mostly called Jakey boy as our daughter cannot pronounce Jacob. LOL

You have up to 6 weeks after having the baby to register them, so you can leave it a while after, to decide the name if necessary. Although you probably knew that...

What names are you thinking of?

Yep! We were set on Elizabeth Cate for a girl, which I now think is maybe a bit boring. It was Freddie for a boy but now that just seems frightfully middle class I love the name Seth but DH isn't going for it at all. Dylan was another possibity, but ... just not exciting me!

They're really lovely names. Maybe you're thinking too hard about it now?

Yes! Funnily enough my dad started to call him Jason as we wouldn't really discuss names with anyone as I couldn't bear people criticising any of our choices again. For us it was that I really wanted ONE name and DP hated it, and DP wanted ONE name which I didn't want so we just stopped talking about it as we figured he'd end up with A name at some point even if it wasn't THE name either of us wanted. In the end when he was born he really suited a name that DP had dismissed fairly early on and we went for it.

See, I love Jacob...but I have this strange paranoia that my mouth makes a horrid shape when I say the letter J

It actually took us a little while before it dawned on us that they are essentially the same name, but with additional letters! I just like the 'th' sound...

But now I'm liking William, a name I always had in mind before I was even pregnant...and Maggie for a girl, named after my mum and grandma.

I really need to bring this up with DP again don't I!

And DD was one name for 3 days and then we changed it.

I think you need to meet the person before you can really name them.

We had a girl's name, but not one for a boy, and of course, out popped a boy

Within ten minutes, DH was saying "what are we going to call him?" and wanted a name NOW (bonding thing I think...) So we chose a boy's name, I am happy with it and can't imagine DS with a different name. However, I do wish I'd left it a bit, given myself at least a few hours after birth to really decide( read: convince DH that I now deserved to pick the name after delivering a 10lb baby). I can't say the name would be different, but it would've felt a bit less rushed.

Maggie is a particularly gorgeous name, btw.

DD's birth ended in emergency forceps in theatre and it was a shock to have a baby let alone process that we had a girl!

We chose a first name for her off the short list within 24 hours and it took another 24hours to get the middle name organised.

Everyone had been texted that we had a girl ... I imagine it was quite exciting waiting a while for the name to be revealed!

I'm glad we took our time to figure it out and she suits Anna very much.
