I'm pregnant. I love Isla, middle name Rose.

I knoooow, Isla is getting so popular. Is it pretty enough to be ok that it's popular?

Can you suggest any similar pretty names to go with Rose?

If you love it, that is all that matters. It is a pretty name and goes well with Rose

I really like it.

If you want something similar but less popular do you like Iona?

It's my very good friends dd's name and I love it. It sounds lovely with Rose as a middle name too. Go for it if you love it so much.

It will mortally offend my 30yr-old sister who was the only Isla anyone knew for about 26 years.

It is a lovely name. My sister is Isla Kathleen ...

Annie Rose is lovely and the name of the little sister in the wonderful Shirley Hughes books about Alfie.

Isla's not popular round here, in fact I don't think I've ever met one.

Rose, however, is ridiculously overused. Every little girl seems to be called Rose/Rosa/Rosie/Rosemary. And those that aren't are either Ruby or Evie!

I think Isla is rising in popularity but it's not one of those names that is ever going to be number 1, IMO. It's a lovely name but I don't think you will have to worry about massive popularity.

I have never met one.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

I know Rose is exceedingly popular, but it was someone special to me and OH and we wanted to use the name in her memory.

I love the suggestions you have posted and am trotting off to show OH as we speak! He doesn't 'get' many of my choices. In fact, his response to Esme when I suggested it was "What does that mean?! I don't get it!"

Popular names are popular for a reason sometimes. Its because they are nice. It can look a bit contrived when people go for unusual names just because they are different.

Isla is beautiful and Isla rose is gorgeous.

I love the name Isla and yes, it is popular. I would have still considered it for our bump but when put with our surname it sounded like a weekend destination rather than a name - think Isle of Mann, or Isle of Wight!

Shame as it a gorgeous name!

nikkisbump · 09/01/2010 12:16

My OH won't have Lola because he thinks of Lolo Ferrari! Shame as I know of a cute Lola Isabelle.

depends on whether or not you will mind her having friends with the same name/several kids with same name in her class. if not then go for it.
