Tell me your thoughts on Leda?

Pronounced Lea-'the' as opposed to leader!
It is DH's ONLY suggestion apart from Eva which I also like but I'm trying to get him to see it's getting too popular. Also umming over Nina and Rosa. All chosen becasue they can be easily pronounced by Greeks and English, DD wll be half Greek. Any thoughts?

When I read it I read Led-a so not the correct pronounciation or 'leader'.
Eva is really popular but it is pretty. Nina and Rosa are also pretty. Leda makes me think of lead, the metal, so not a pretty thought.

I think most people will pronounce it Leda (leader)

It also makes me think about someone having sex with swans - sorry

Leda, pronounced 'leeder', makes me think of the myth of Leda and the Swan - so lovely association. I think most people would pronounce it 'leeder', so you might always have to explain to people if you want it pronounced 'leether'. Secondly, 'leether' sounds a little bit like 'lethal' to me, I'm afraid.

Love Nina, Eva and particularly Rosa.

I'd pronounce it Layda (but would probably be wrong), and my first thought was of the swan - ref here

I'd prefer Rosa and Nina over Leda, especially if you are not pronouncing it as it looks....my first thought was swans.

It is the name of an engineering recruitment agency in Leeds. That's my first thought, and can;t really get beyond that. I would pronounce in Leader if not corrected. Didn't knwo about the swans.

Leda and the swan isn't a lovely association I don't think. She's raped by Zeus disgused as a swan and has Helen leading to the siege of Troy (kind of). It's quite a nice name but has some strange connotations.

Other Greek names I know of are Euphemia and Estrathia.

I read it as Leader... like Lea-the but suspect she'd spend her life correcting people, sorry!

I also thought 'and the swan' - also I thought Layda, but that's obviously just my ignorance. I do quite like it, but also like Rosa very much and Nina is pretty too.

I do love Eva, but you're right, tis very popular, although that's not necessarily a reason for not choosing it.

We have a 'foreign' family too, and wanted a name that could be pronounced internationally, so we went for Maya (or you could use Maia). You're welcome to it, if you like it

Daisy, I like the Maya suggestion. It hits all my buttons of being pretty but plain and simple not sugary. I have taught a couple of Maya's in the past though and I just have that association now. Also it means midwife in modern Greek

I believe Thalia is Greek and is very pretty (bit of bias there I have the Hebrew Talia version)

Lethe -- people don't htink of a swan, they think of a river in Hell instead. Not sure that's an improvement, tbh.

I love Zoe but I don't like the way the Greeks pronounce it, Zoh-ee with the emphasis on second syllable, it would really annoy me hearing them say it like that.
Lethe makes me think of Seth.
