How do you pronounce Cressida?

This is on a friend's list.

We've been having a bit of a disagreement about the pronunciation.
I'd say Cress-i (as in lid/hid) -da. She says it is Cress-ee-da.

Which of us is right?

I would say it as your friend would , Cress-ee-da. No idea which is the correct pronunciation though.

Cress-ee-da is how I would say it. But I don't actually know anyone with that name. I must have heard it pronounced like that on the television.

Theres a road near me called cressida and its prnounced Cress-ee-da

Troilus and Cressida is certainly not ee.

I would pronounce it ID too but maybe the confusion comes from the variant titles of the Troilus and Cressida story (Chaucer, Henryson, Shakespeare, etc) - eg Criseyde? It's spelt lots of different ways in different texts

It's my name and it's pronounced with the short i like in hid and lid! I find it very annoying when people call me cress-ee-da and worse cress-eye-da.

Don't have much problem with the references to being an inconstant woman as very few people have heard of the play, let alone know the plot!

Defo as in lid. I've never heard anyone say it otherwise, but obviously they do. (I've sung Troilus and Cressida many times, LadyCressida!)
