JuliaGulia · 16/11/2009 15:38

Hi everyone.

We're looking for a boy's name, 3 syllables, that hopefully wont be shortened.

Any suggestions? We'll consider anything.

Thanks!

Gideon is nice. Julian. Dominic.

I don't know if you can be certain it won't be shortened.

TiggyR · 16/11/2009 17:51

I really like Julian at the moment. It's classic without being over-used, and distinguished without being pompous.

MaggiePie · 16/11/2009 17:55

agree. Julius might be hard to pull off!! but Julian is a normal sporty sounding of guy. (not that I read too much into names or anything )

MaggiePie · 16/11/2009 17:55

I do love Julius though. I couldn't use it myself though.

anamaria22 · 17/11/2009 10:01

I don't think these 3 syllable names are necessarily going to be shortened

Julian
Gideon
Damian
Florian

Maggie, every Dominic I know is called Dom .

Thanks for all your great suggestions - we'll definitely consider some of them.

I agree most long names are shortened but we hope that if we promote the full name from birth, friends and family will follow suit.

Can't really use Julian - given my nickname - but I love Elliott (DH isn't so sure) and Cameron is great too.

I'll let you know how we get on!

Elliott really would be tough to shorten but my son is Cameron and EVERYONE calls him Cam or Cammy, including us!
