Is it a good solid timeless name, or is it yummy-mummy hipster? ..like Dexter et al?

I love the name Hector.

I like Dexter to, but wouldn't actually chooses it for my child.

My next pg will be twin boys, named Hector and Edward.

Love Hector (but am biased because DS is a Hector). Didn't occur to me at all that it might be a hipster name. Chose it because DH liked the classical hero connotations and I thought it was a strong name with a Scottish feel to it (I am from Scotland). Wouldn't have put it in the same bracket as Dexter, which I think of as a very American kind of name, at all. Victor's OK, but prefer Hector.

I really like Hector - wanted it for DS but OH vetoed..

I think of Hector as being Scottish or Classical. dh was keen on it for a long time (he was a classical historian when we met). But we decided in the end that a)Hector was really too tragic, and b)there weren't any good short forms.

Where I come from it is a good solid country name, it has no class connotations. I LOVE it.

Hector is rather posh, are you posh ? Generally speaking I don't like posh names, but it does have a strength about it which is quite appealing.
