Well this is my Dads name and he hates it.
It is ds's middle name also, and my Dad was horrified that the poor little might had Raymond as a mn.

BUT - dh and i still really like it, we like nn's Mondo and Ray.

Is it useable?
Is it OK to use when it is dc4's mn?
Is it ok to use when my Dad hates it?

I think it might be time for a bit Of a Raymond revival!!!!!

Raymond Arthur - very smart, or very crap??

I should listen to your Dad-he is the one that has been lumbered with it-I should think he is horrified!

I think that it is at that horrible inbetween stage, iyswim.

Arthur, George etc - coming back. Raymond, Wayne etc need a bit more time.

just my opinion though. but as I always say about baby names, it matters not what others think, only what you think.

Thanks for replies.
Just reread my first post and obviously that should have been 'poor little mite' not 'poor little might' .
Distracted by ds!

I love Raymond, I wanted it for DS2 but DH vetoed.
I guess bottom line is that a lot of people abhor it. For some unfathomable reason it's received far worse than Kyan, Dipshut or Loser (or most anything else).
So you'd need a tough thick skin to use it (and I hope you do!).

tummytickler,

Unfortunately for me,being a child of the 60s, I have known a lot of Raymonds over the years (not in the biblical sense you understand ).... so it just seems a bit.... dated.

And as for Mondo!!!!!!!!!! I worked with a guy once who added -mondo to the end of every word.... I wanted to smash his weasely little snout lol.

My Dad is called Frank and he would be HORRIFIED if I ever used it - even for a middle name.

Mind you, what do I know, I live in France and the most popular name in my region for newborn boys is Kevin

I prefer Redmond....

Kevin is popular in Italy too. Weird isn't it?

But, I don't dislike Raymond at all. I would use Red, not Ray for short though.

I like Victor, Donald and Bruce too. And Howard. I'm ready for these names a bit before other people are ready for them.

I've met a few adult Rays (male and female actually) and it's OK I guess. However I think that as your dad has expressed his feelings quite strongly about your use of it as a middle name for one son, choosing it as a first name for another would really be sticking his nose in it. I used my mum's mum's name for dd's middle name and she was really very upset (came a s a bit of a surprise to me), if I had then used it as a first name for a subsequent child I think she would have thought that I was deliberately trying to hurt her.

So no, find something else!

Hello. I was thinking about the name Ray yesterday when I was watching the One Show and John Simpson (BBC war correspondent) was on and his little boy was called Ray. I initially thought how awful, calling your lad Raymond (mainly cause I have a right lazy git of an uncle called Raymond so that just put me off straight away), then I thought, actually, Ray, as in sun ray, was a rather nice thing to call a child.. in a hippy dippy kind of way

My dgs2 is Frank[Francis Thomas]and I love it now though I wasn't keen at first. The name becomes attached to the person and dgs[5]is a gorgeous, blonde imp with a delicious sense of humour.I think baby raymond wouldd make his name lovely too.
