I like Tristram but is it awful that it means sorrowful??

prefer Tristram to Tristan. Just do.

It just does mean sorrowful!! derives from the latin for sad which is triste or tristes or summat

Hmm, PullMyFinger. French, and many other European languages, are derived from Latin.

not denying that Triste is French but think you may find it is Latin too Smile

Tristram has nothing to do with sadness, says this website.

I thought Tristam was old Cornish for Tristan, and Tristan is Cornish for Thomas.

Tristram is a mouthful, though. That would put me off it. I have a Tristan, he's nearly 5 and can't even say his own name clearly yet, never mind if it had an extra r in it.

Timon is okay but it's a particular character in Lion King (the one with flatulence problem?).

Love Tristram. Sod what it means- who looks up meanings of names except expectant parents?

Timon just makes me think of Timon & Pumba and start to sing

Tristram is nice but I'd prefer Tristan myself.

I have a Tristan WHen I was reading up about it I later read it meant sorrow but also that it means noisy- and it does!

I have to say that Tristan does bring to mind Peter Davison and Tristram reminds me of the book Tristram Shandy (which I haven't actually managed to finish about 10 years I began studying it).

I'm not quite sure what that says about my viewing or literary tastes .

Lol at hotcrosspurepurple - my mind went straight there too

Tristram is a wee bit Little Lord Fauntleroy for me....not keen

Timon is terrible imho.

Tristan is lovely.

Tristram - I'm another one who failed to finish reading the book as part of my degree!
