We already have an Eva.

And we have decided on either Raphael or Rosa.

Do you think they sound ok together?

Lovely. Rosa is one my all time faves, nearly called my DD it. Goes beautifully with Eva, too. Raphael very nice.

Well done

ace- lovely- my dd2 was nearly a rosa but my soft 'r' isn't reliable enough to say it unthinkingly...
some friends have an Eva and a Max which is also nice.Raphael is one of my nephews names.

Don't use anything-mae....it's chavtastic

Both your names are beautiful.

Strong, classic and chic.

And Eva is gorgeous (biased as my wee niece is an Eva )

My ten yr old is ellie mae and she is anything but 'chavtastic'...[sceptical]

numpty comment.

Just my personal opinion - didn't mean to offend our daughter Leanna.

Well maybe it's a phenomenon solely restricted to where I live (Leeds) but here there are legions of Ellie-Mae's, Daisy-mae's and Lily-mae's and they are all of a certain ilk.

It's actually more the use of the hyphen that bothers me. Hyphenated girl's names to me are a bit sickly and twee. Mae as a middle name is ok.

So in my opinion (we are still allowed those aren't we?) it's not as nice as Rosa on it's own or with a different middle name.

There is also the Beverly Hillbillies association which I can't quite shake

Mae is her middle name and of course you can have an opinion bunny - i get touchy as it always gets such a pasting on here and i just don't get it? It was a very unique name ten yrs ago but i will certainly conceed their is a glut of ellie maes and daisy maes now...we are SE and there are tons of 2 3 4 5 yr olds with these names.

i actually love the hillbillies connection as i have such great memories of coming how from school and watching it in black and white followed by the munsters....

most importantly of all tho, she loves her name....when we actually use it, for the most part she is known to us as 'boot'....long story...x

Report
BunnyLebowski · 09/04/2009 12:46

Boot? Intriguing.. Our 6 month old gets almost exclusively called chunk by DP and toots by me!

It had occured to me Leanna that it was probably the case that the name was differently regarded 10 years ago!

Such is the nature of names.....dipping in and out of use over time.

As long as you and more inportantly SHE loves her name then you've got it right!

And just to clarify....I meant to say YOUR not OUR

names are sooo hard. i am starting to dread naming this new baby when it comes because as you say names go in and out of popularity - but should it be about that? my name has never been popular - indeed i don't actually know any other leanna's - and i have always really enjoyed that but what is the criteria for naming a child? may be i should stick to family names? i am so glad you have found a name you love love love quack cos that just aint happening for me haha.

It shouldn't be down to popularity but realistically it DOES affect me when it comes to choosing a name.

I really really love the name Ruby and had it earmarked years ago for a dd but when I was pregnant last year it became so popular that I went off it.

I also loved Fionn for a boy (the Irish version of Finn) but Finn, Finlay, finley etc are now so popular here in Leeds that I went off it too

I guess I just wouldn't want my child going to school with 5 or 6 other kids who have the same name.

Eva and Rosa
Eva and Raphael

good choices.

i totally know how you feel. why is it so hard to find a name that it beautiful, unusual but not unreaasonable....its like the bloody holy grail of names isn't it... sometimes telling the name you like on MN tho can be just as disheartening as telling it in RL...some people can be so critical and others just rude....i guess you ask for it by posting tho.Ruby is a beautiful name but See Ruby down here in the SE has just been done to death as has Ava...perhaps i should just go with my five year old Bob [james....never known by that tho...]and call this baby Nintendo....x
