I seem to have a bit of time to kill this evening for a change! Just enjoyed reading the other similar thread and found it quite funny. What are your opinions on these names. They all seem to have come up on recent threads but I don't necessarily like all of them!

Scarlett
Elodie
Flora
Sylvie
Electra
Lydia

Yes, have heard of the Electra complex! Was asked by a Greek friend what I thought of the name recently and had a similar reaction to everyone else!

Scarlet: Vivacious and beautiful with slim features and pale skin. Scarlet is very intellegent but dispite this continues to have an on-going affair with an older married man. She tells herself that she will leave him as she knows it is wrong but he tells her he would commit if it weren't for his young children.

Flora: mousey, looks older than she is, wears tea dresses, works in the local library. Lives in a very old country cottage.

Elodie: Twice divorced, now lives as a romantic fiction writer with her beloved cat.

Electra: Volumptuous, long haired, very attractive. Hates working as a pole dancer but has to make ends meet as a single mum. Studying for a degree to better herself.

Sylvie: Full time mum to 2 girls, married. Writes poetry and bakes for the school fayre in her spare time. Home is full of home made furnishings.

Lydia: Lives in an expensive loft but will soon be selling up to buy a beautiful home in the counry with her future husband who is attractive and successful like herself. Lydia's parents are delighted that their daughter turned out to be a very successful human rights lawyer.

lunamoon2 - not reading too much into a name I see. Would love your views on my shortlist. [rin]

Scarlett - strong name with attitude - love it
Elodie - bit wishy washy - reminds me of Melody which I don't like
Flora - margerine - old fashioned - doesn't have a great ring to it
Sylvie - like it - especially pronounced the French way - depends a bit on your surname
Electra - very punkish - not sure
Lydia - prissy

Scarlett - overused, bit common.
Elodie - alright but just sounds like Melodie with a missing 'M'
flora - lovely name, pretty, feminine - shame about the margarine association but there you go
Sylvie - love it.
Electra - hideous, try hard, chavvy porn star name.
Lydia - pretty, classic, safe

Scarlett - scarlet woman, scarlet fever, blushing scarlet, Scarlet Letter, Scarlett O'Hara, Scarlet Pimpernel, Scarlett the Harlot, a little scar
Elodie - OK if you're French
Flora - I think this is a lovely name but for lots of people it just says 'margarine'
Sylvie - OK if you're French. Sylvia Plath, Silvikrin, Sylvanian Families
Electra - Complex, Mourning Becomes, name of a cinema
Lydia - not one of my favourite names but a perfectly nice name. "Lydia, Lydia, I am at your command.I can offer you nothing at all. This is more than I had planned. Oh, Lydia, Lydia... (repeat to fade)"

lolling at what people have said but I will join in

Scarlett - O'Hara, feisty, maybe spolit (like O'Hara!)
Elodie - sounds quite twee and people will mishear it as Melody all the time
Flora - quite old fashioned but I like it though wouldn't use it due to margarine
Sylvie - I really like this name - makes me think of a little French girl like the one in petit filou ads
Electra - sounds like an assumed name of a stripper or dominatrix
Lydia - makes me think of a lovely little girl in DSs class with this name. It is 'safe'. Wouldn't use if in Scotland though 'cos the way many people say 'Lid of a' sounds just like Lydia. Same reason I would use Nathan in Scotland because it sounds like the way some of us say 'Nothing'
