Heard this name a while ago and I've been toying with it...wondered what people thought?

No please don't.

One of my childhood friends had this as a second name and hated it.

reminds me of Ovaltine but think i actually prefer the sound of Ovaltine

Is it male or female?

the author rachel cusk called her daughter this. I find Cusk quite irritating, so dislike the name by association.

That's where I've heard it from PaddingtonBore a friends daughter is friends with her daughter.
Do you think that's the only Albertine out there?!
I must admit when I first heard it I thought it was pretty awful but it grows on you I think...has a nice ring to it? I don't know interesting to hear peoples thoughts!

Not sure I'd call my child that, but I kinda like it... sounds way better than a lot of the popular names out there actually.

Old-fashioned, and not in a good way.

Alberta would be a better feminization of Albert, if only a Canadian state hadn't thought of it first

paolosgirl · 09/01/2009 18:03

Noooooooooo!

Reminds me of these awful names that become feminine simply by adding -ine or -ina. Tomasina anyone, or Jamesina?

No, some names are better off left in the midst of time

No, not good. Sorry

It's the name of a very beautiful fragrant pink rose ... and it's a lovely rose name but not good dc name. Could get shorted to 'Bert' too ...

It is a lovely rose, and one of my favourites. Not entirely sure it would be a kindness to inflict it on a baby though....

I agree that it is a name of a similar ilk as

Thomasina

Nigella

Albertine

I love it. I would go for AlbertinA though.

my mum had three aunts: Albertina, Clementina and Whillelmina (sp?). Whillelmina was her favourite and i was very tempted to call dd2 that- however i would have for her to be called "Willie" :-( Although Mina would be lovely.

Thomasina is really lovely! I wonder why my greatgrandmother didn't go for that for my grandmother (who was the last of her daughters and called, rather out of theme, Julianna)

I used to work with a lovely Albertine, known as Albie. Had never liked it before or even thought it was a name anyone actually used, but it now has positive connotations for me. Still wouldn't use it myself though!

No I've decided; I don't think I'd have the nerve to do it!

Baby due in 8 weeks so back to the drawing board!

I bet Nigella's going to make a come back!
