A girl at dd's school has this name and I have never heard of it before.

Is it a proper name or made up?

I am not pg btw nor do I intend to be

Never heard of it.

To me it sounds alike a brand of china with a "Royal approval" stamp

The name is spellt QUENBY and it is indeed a girls name:

The girl's name Quenby \qu(en)-by\ is of Old English origin, and its meaning is "queen's settlement".

so it's a place name, not a girl's name

It's a place in Leicestershire

I like MrsB's idea that it's 2 halves of parents' names. You know, like giving your house a combined name from a couple's names ... actually didn't Peter Andre and Jordan do that? (The childs name I mean, not a house)

Yes Princess Taammii or however it is spelt is half his mother's name and half her mother's name.

Perhaps Quenbly's parents originated from Leicestershire then!

It is looking like it Shoo, maybe they just wanted to be different.

She has a brother and I can't for the life of me remember his name, it's something I have heard of it but not a common name

I used to go to school with a QUENBY so she would be in her 30's now. I'd forgotton all about the name until this thread, I actually quite like it.
