Thoughts please, not too ordinary or too hollywood.

I've got 13 weeks to go but i'm panicing. Had a definate boys name but we have been told we are having a girl. My name was VERY popular when i was at school so i would like a name that is a little uncommon but not ridiculous or too hollywood, or ordinary with a silly spelling.

So far i like
Isla but is getting popular,
Eden,
Caitlin,
Corinne,

So far dh has come up with Emma and Jade which are nice but not i'm not that keen (no offence to any Emmas and Jades)

I don't hate any of them - least keen on Eden and my fav of the bunch would be Corinne. I am not keen on Jade but Emma is ok but would fall into the very ordinary category. What about Emmaline?

I like Caitlin

I have an Emily and a Sophie both very popular but not as many in their schools as I thought they'd be.

My dog is called Isla so can't recommend that one really although it is very nice and you're unlikely to ever meet my dog!

Corinne pronounced "corin" not "coreen" in my opinion, is the best. I do like Isla but 2 of my friends have both had little Islas in the last 4 months..

Like all of yours. Don't find them at all 'out there'. Am not so keen on Jade, but love Emma.

Really dislike Corinne as knew a really horrible girl with that name! Like Eden best from your list. Isla is nice, but getting popular.

Corinne is pretty. All of your names are pretty.

A few other not-too-common-not-too-hollywood names that spring to mind:

Dalia
Felicity
Lena

Don't panic! We had a shortlist going into birthing, and we decided when we met our LO. It all made perfect sense. My neighbours in the maternity ward did it a bit differently. They had a list as well, but took longer to decide. I overheard them whispering beautiful names to their new daughter, and they waited for a reaction from her. We left before they landed, but it was so sweet to overhear. However you decide (or however she decides!), it'll be great. Friends of ours gave us this advice: shout the names that you are thinking of. How funny! We did it with our shortlist, and I think it was helpful. Good luck!

Hi,
I think you'll find a lot of Caitlin's around. Same with Isla (although I LOVE LOVE it).
Corinne is my fave.
Really dislike Jade sorry but Emma is really pretty and timeless although not unusual.

Marianne
Juliette
Catrina/Catriona
Serena
Emmy

Ooh Eden is lovely too. Don't worry, my dd2 had about 3 names for a couple of days until we went back to the first one. If you have a shortlist you can decide which one suits your princess once she is born!

What about Emmaline if Emma is too ordinary?

I love Christabel (and Christy too).
Juliet is very pretty and quite unusual
and I actually like Jade as a name but can't get Jade Goody out of my head whenever I hear it now.
Caitlin is nice but there seem to be many ways of spelling it at the moment (Kaitlin, kaitlyn, Kate-Lyn are some that I know of).
Eden (IMO) is a bit too 'hollywood' for me - not a 'proper' name.
Corinne is Ok but a bit 'hard' sounding.
Isla is very pretty but seems to be getting quite poplular now (depends if you mind this?)
Good luck, hope this helps a bit!

Isla and Caitlin are nice.
Popular but not common.
Important distinction!

How about Jada? Bit more feminine than jade.

Report
LiffeyMummyPig · 08/01/2009 14:09

Christa is a nice shortform of Christabel. What about Clodagh instead of Caitlin.

Emma is nice. Prefer Jemma or Gemma though. Jade - no way.

Corinne is lovely. Isla and Caitlin are really common where I am (London). Emma is meh. I like Jade. It was popular when I was at school (80s/90s).
