Ok, meant to ask this when I asked about my possible DS name of Herbie but now - what do you think of Mabel? Not even sure if this is the correc spelling yet - heard it last week and love it.

For me, it's an old lady name too far...just doesn't have the appeal of some of the others for some reason. it's a bit harsh.

Now Martha is fab (couldn't use it for dd2 as it doesn't go with our surname )

I think it's horrible. Reminds me of a donkey for some reason.

I can't imagine a child thanking you for it.

Typical MN for opinion to love it though. Please don't take the ponces on here as a reflection of RL will you.

I like it, old fashioned but sweet. Come on, there are people out there calling their kids way worse than that.

Would you want to me called Mabel? Seriously?

15 years old and trying to impress the boys at the ice rink or whatever. "what's your name?" "Mabel"

PMSL!

Yeah but he'll probably be called Bernard so it'll be fine.

Able Mable.

The thing is, a lot of 'old lady' names are coming back in. At dd's school there is an Elspeth, an Edie and a Martha. Lovely names. I like Mabel as well. Very pretty.

Martha was ruined for me by Martha in Dr Who. Lots of Marthas around now.
