Nickname for Martha?

I have my heart set on Martha Lily if we have a girl but DH has just admitted (after months of me going on about it) that he's not keen on Martha, one reason being that he doesn't like the nickname Mattie. He hasn't ruled it out and has said he will still consider it if I can think of another nickname/shortened version.

Incidentally he wants Lily as a first name, which I am not vehemently opposed to, as Lily is my nan's name and we want it to feature, but it seems to be very popular at the moment and I was after something a bit more unusual.

Any suggestions?? I can only think of Mattie (which I like) and Martie (which I don't)...

I would shorten it to Marth, probably. Or Mar.

my dd2 is Thef.

My friends wee girl is a 'Martha' and it has never shortened by anyone so far...

Miffy is very sweet - I suppose nicknames can be anything, can't they...

We like names that you can shorten - we deliberately have a boy's name with variables so that he could choose what he wants to be called later in life. But Martha is a harder one! I guess I will just cross my fingers and hope that DH will learn to love it (or that we have a boy and avoid the whole conundrum!)

DS2 would have been a Martha after my granny. It's a lovely name. She was always called Mattie.

It's only two bloody syllables, and the "uh" comes easily, why shorten it at all?

I would never think to shorten Martha TBH; a beautiful name in its on right, no need to shorten.
