Seems DH and I have picked the worst name ever for our ds. Find it a bit grating how one or two people can be so outspoken about a name but not really then go on to say why!!

Jonathan is our sons name, Michael being his middle name.. is it that shocking?

Both lovely names. Can't see what anyone could find wrong with them.

Depends on your surname really!

Yes love both names. I only post if I like a name or if op has an either/or question.

Bless - They're both names I considered for my DS. They're the names of very special people in my family!
They're lovely names and you should take no notice of anyone who says otherwise!

Do you think its because its quite a normal name? That perhaps they're expecting you to call him something 'unique'?

What lovely names. Jonathan was originally on our list for ds1 until a friend 'pinched' it (glad she did as it wouldn't have suited him). Michael is one of ds1's middle names. What's not to like?

When I told my friend whatwe were going to call this next baby she said "OH no, I don't like that at all"

I wasn't asking if she fecking liked it I was just telling her what we'd come up with. I find it shocking that people can be so rude.

Now if you post on mumsnet and ask "what do you think of this name" well you have to be prepared to take it with both barrells

I can see that people might not like it if your surname is Ponathan!!

some people are just stupid.

what have they actually said?

Jonathan Michael is a nice name.

My brother is called Jonathan; my friend's DS is Michael.

Can't see what the problem with them are TBH.

That's my DH's name and he is always called by his full name, not Jon or John, thank goodness, because I love the name ( and him!)

After much delving (would have been on here sooner, but Jonathan been keeping me in zombie mode turns out it is too old fashioned for some and one person thinks having a h or the o spelt version would have been more unusual.

Feeling less touchy about it now, but when you go and share the name with people, last thing one wants to hear at times is a judgement on the name.. as at the end of the day it's our baby not theirs!!

I know exactly how you feel! We decided to call our son Joseph Ryan early on in my pregnancy and it was unbelievable how many people felt that they had the right to tell us that they didn't like the name we had chosen - Not least my mother-in-law who was very vocal on this matter!!! We had already decided on the name and it was not up for discussion, if we had only been considering it and had asked what people thought then that would have been a different matter! It's hard enough to find a name that you and your partner both agree on without everyone else sticking their oar in!

It is a PERFECT name, It's the same name (and spelling) of my oldest son. It's perfect and beautiful, and when you enrol him in reception, the teacher won't look down the register and point to his name and say to her classroom assistant "Gawd, he's going to be a right sod!"
