Hephzibah

We have just been discussing girls names... even though we're convinced we are having a boy!

Think we have decided on Martha Edith, but we both really love the name Hephzibah... it's a hebrew name that means something like 'my delight is in her'. It would be shortened to Effie or Eppie, but we're not sure we're brave enough.

Your thoughts please.....

I like Effie but not Eppie or Hephzibah I'm afraid. I always think of Hepzibah in Carrie's War.

I had a trainee midwife when I was giving birth to ds2 who was called Hepzibah - all the other midwives called her Hep (in the throes of labour I couldn't figure out what it was short for so asked her the next day). She was lovely.

Have to say I prefer Martha though

Love Martha. She'll certainly get noticed if you call her Hepzibah. Depends if that's what you want.

Family name, only come across it once or twice before, I have my eye on it just waiting to have the dd!! Do you know what you're having?

Martha Edith is lovely. Can't even pronounce Hepzibah. Think of her trying to spell it as she grows up, and having to (tediously) spell it out to everyone as an adult.

I am a Claire and I have to tediously spell my name out too. and my relatively common surname

so don't let that put you off

Hepzibah was also the name of the little girl in Silas Marner. Not sure about it myself. I do like Martha though.

I went to school with a girl called Hepzibah. Is Hephzibah really a 'correct' spelling?

I think it would sound a bit affected if you yelled it

Ohhhh HEP - Ziii - BAHHHH! Come here darling!

Can you imagine the looks?

SO do you have boys names, I think your dds have quite funky names?! so I guess that makes it harder! Remind me when you're due, are you August? How old will dd3 be then?
