Hi all, I would be grateful if you could give me your honest opinions on the following names:-

Boy - Saul Alexander
Girl - Elisabeth Rose

I am 37 weeks pg and believe me, I have been through EVERY name in the book! We have told only my parents the above names and they love them and I want to keep them secret in RL but would like some honest opinions.

Thanks

I couldn't use Saul, I'm afraid - the fact he was a nasty man has stayed with me since Sunday school.

but Elisabeth Rose is lovely (though be prepared for frequent misspellings)

Well I'm almost 39 weeks and still not decided

Love the girl's name. Not keen on Saul though

The reason I like the name Saul is because it means "asked for" which this child was so much asked for, we have been infertile for 11 years (DD was IVF) and this baby has been conceived naturally. Also my brother is Paul (which Saul changed his name to/from?

Should I let what happened in biblical times put me off the name?! Bloody hell, just when I thought I had the names sorted!!

I have a girl but also considered Saul as I adore my brother called Paul.

Please don't let others put you off any of your chosen names.

I deliberately didn't disclose my chosen name/s because other people's comments can be inconsiderate.

I love them both, love Saul, really strong and unusual, would love to have called DS Saul but DH not so keen. Go for it

They are both great names and if you like them use them.
You really shouldn't bother asking what people think!!

I know Catnip and Yama, I should just stick to what I like and keep my mouth shut!! I do want opinions though and if I am game enough to post here, I have to take the rough with the smooth!!!

Maybe I am sensitive - I remember being hurt and a bit offended when people rubbished some of my early thoughts on names.

Once they are born people aren't usually so blunt.

Like Elisabeth Rose (but why not Elizabeth). My name's Elizabeth and DD2's is Rosie. Not sure on the boys name though. I second the keeping your mouth shut as with DD1 I mentioned a couple of names to my mother who pulled disapproving faces.

I think they are lovely.

I like them both aswell.

babyblue2, Elisabeth spelt with the S is a family name and I suppose I would like to keep the spelling that way! No other reason really and I have dithered over having it spelt with the Z as it means they could have a lifetime of telling people to spell it with an "S"!

Yama, I agree, the reason why I am keeping it secret in RL is that EVERY name I have had has been poo-pooed by family/friends. I loved Alana but since my SIL said it sounds like a lapdancer's name, it put me off!

If you like those names, then go for them. They're not names I would have chosen, but you probably wouldn't like my childrens names.

catnip · 15/08/2007 21:54

I really like Elisabeth with an s. Like it with a z too, but with an s is especially pretty. Honestly - love both your names

helenelisabeth · 15/08/2007 21:54

Also babyblue I quite like Elisabeth shortened to Lissy (if I was to shorten it that is, I probably wouldn't as love Elisabeth as it is) hence the "S"!

I like them both - Saul is great and Elizabeth was our name if we'd had a girl instead of ds. I'd second the 'be prepared for misspellings' though. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it

I think Elisabeth is lovely just curious as to why not with a Z. Lissy is lovely as a shortened name. I get Liz sometimes or Lizzie but prefer Elizabeth. My parents call me Tizz and my husband calls me Dizzy.

Babyblue Elizabeth is definitely a name ripe for revival IMO! I have a DD called Grace and Grace is v popular now but was not so much in 2001! I just love old fashioned names and they grow with the child plus they sound classier as well!

I like Grace, TBH though I never liked Elizabeth when I was a teenager and was desperate to have it shortened but now I've got it shortened if I want, I don't want it to be (except family members), though I don't see how DH gets Dizzy our of Elizabeth, I think thats more my personality.

Babyblue as you may have guessed from my username, my full name is Helen Elisabeth and I always wished I had been called Elisabeth instead of Helen. The beauty of it is that there are tonnes of names you can shorten it to if you get fed up with Elisabeth!

Elizabeth Rose was my choice for a girl. My friend has just called her new dd Elizabeth and today we found out we were having another boy Think Elizabeth Rose is beautiful and I like the shortened versions of Libby or Beth or Betty. LIke it with S or Z.

Not so keen on Saul but not really heard it much. Like Alexander

Enjoy rest of your pregnancy and hope birth goes well. I am only 20 weeks so you stage seems a lifetime away!
