If you had a baby right now what would you call it?

We are ttc no 4 and our list for girls is
Mabel
Juniper
Maude
Magnolia (nn Maggie)
Jean
Cordelia
Nora
Theodora (nn Dottie)
Alma
Hester

Boys

Cosmo
Amos
Albert
Herbert (nn Herb/ie)

I like old fashioned names like Ivy, Maude, Iris, Opal, Esmeralda, Pearl etc.

What are your opinions on my names and i would love to see your name lists.

Love Clara et.al

Personally for a girl I like Claire or Madeleine. My new niece's name is Leah which is nice too.

It is always so cute though.

Oh dear I don't like any of them sorry!

I guess at a push Alma for a girl, like Dottie but not Theodora

They all sound like rather formidable busty old schoolmarms!

I've got an Albert and it really suits him. It always gets a good reaction.

clarahj · 13/11/2006 15:13

my other kids are Iris, Elijah and Pearl.
I like names to match too, for example a Jordan or Mikyla would sound really out of place, and i cant use names i love like Pesephone and Ivy as thay are too closee to iris and pearl

Actually Alma is growing on me

Do you like Alma Cogan then?

I like Elliott - can be either boy or girl name

Report
CountessDracula · 13/11/2006 15:15

A friend of mine has a ds called Elliot

I saw a programme about Alma Cogan yesterday - she was only 34 when she died

sorry clara not keen on any of those names, I mean Herbert?

I know these are names that appeal to you but you have to think about your child growing up and their friends and what their name does for them.

I suppose because I like simple, timeless names eg Anna or David is the reason your choices don't appeal to me.

Countess Dracula : i don't know Alma Cogan - who is she?

Mummydoc : I love all of your list with the exception of Octavia - it sounds a bit hard iykwim.

I like Elliot - my cousins ds is called Elliot and he is cute as a button. I didn't like it for a girl but i am quite a fan of that show Scrubs and there is a girl called Elliot on that, so it has grown on me.

Joolstoo - I am quite lucky - i live in Brighton so there are some very wacky name choices here, mine are actually quite tame ( i like to think they are classic names actually). My kids go to school/nursery/baby adn toddlre with Tiger, Xanthe, Vera, Elsie, Sidney, Asha, Suki, Hector etc. I have recently met a 3 year old Bluebell and a local birth announcement for a primrose was in the paper a couple of weeks ago.

I like Primrose but that stupid Primrose Hill set have ruined the name - good middle name though.

I love Anna actually and Elijahs mn is David after dh deceased father

I like Maud best from the girls, only without the 'e'.

Don't really like any of the boys' names, though we did toy with the idea of Bertie (would have been Robert or Albert) for DS2.

Other old-fashioned names around here:
Arthur
Sidney/Sid
Edmund
Clement (now I loved the idea of a Clem, but DH wouldn't let me)
Eric

How about Ezra? Would go nicely with Elijah.

yes it does look a little jilly cooper doesn't it but of course in RL it is because i am a serious reader of shakespeare ....mummydoc beetles off to finnish latest block buster ( which is jilly's latest )

Carrie or Aggie for a girl. If I had twin girls they would be Linnet and Wren.
I still love Lenny and Seth for boys but was overruled for DS.

Like Mabel, Cordelia, Nora, Theodora (but wouldn't use Dottie as nn - prefer Theo/Thea or Dora), Cosmo and Amos. Maude, Jean, Hester and the other boys' names are OK. The others I'm not so keen on.

My name lists are a work in progress and a closely guarded secret...

Bucketsofburntdinosours - My freind is due in January and they are going to call him Lenny if a boy and Seren if a girl.
I really like Seth and Aggie (Agatha ) too.

Singersgirl - I like Ezra a lot but sounds too similar to Elijah i think - even though we call him Eli 99% of the time (was supposed to be just Eli but dh suddenly insisted on long versiona t the registry office !)
I like Clement to it is so cute.
Eric surprised me - it still seems weird to me to call your baby that - it is too old (coming from a girl whos kids are called iris, Eli and Pearl!!!).

From your list I like Magnolia and Cosmo

We are expecting our third and I am liking Jude for a boy and Serena for a girl but thigns might change. I am sure they are far too boring for you though!

I love Maude! Cosmo was on my shortlist for ds4 but he so suits his name!

if I was to have another baby, which I'm not going to do as I'm all done, a girl would be Felicity and a boy would be Caleb.

There would be no argument on Caleb as that's the name I like and dh ended up choosing our dd's names so I'd get to pick the boys name.

For girls I really like Felicity but I also like Celeste and Ophelia.

Cordelia is nice
