Please?
I prefer Julian, but is it too girly?

Julian is a lovely name.

Don't really like Julian but it can be shortened to Jules, which I like

Both are fine but I prefer Julian.

As far as Julian goes I don't think it's girly, but I know people on here worry sometimes (needlessly imo) about names like Darcy and Jesse.

Don't hear this name very often so makes a nice change.

Julian is that know it all idiot from the Famous Five. He has recently retired from his career in local government and now spends his days practicing bell ringing and advising his neighbours as to where they're going wrong with their herbaceous borders. Whether they seek his advice or not. His wife spends her days saying 'yes dear' and necking the cooking sherry. She often wonders why she didn't listen to his sister Anne when she advised her 'don't marry Julian, he's an almighty tit'.

I do like Julius though.

Like both but probably prefer Julius as its more unusual

I think both are perfectly nice names, but...

...there was a Julian in my class at school. He was mocked mercilessly and called Julie. By the beginning of the 2nd year he'd asked to be called David (his middle name).

There might have been more Julies back then, TinyMonkey, these days I think Jules is pretty well accepted.

I always think of Julian as a girls' name, simply because there was (still is, for all I know) a female sci-fi author called Julian May - could have been a pseudonym I guess, but I think it's a cool girls' name, but a bit of a 'wet' boys name (prob cos in my day Julian was a wet boys name, prob cos of Famous 5). And I hate Jules.

Julius is a bit better but I think there are better Roman names out there.

I like both names. I used to think Julian was a bit wet, but it's grown on me recently. I know a 13yo called Julian and it makes a change from all the Harrys etc. He's never been teased about it as far as I know and you could use the nn Jude or Jules, both of which are pretty cool.

I did meet a child called Julius once. You'd have to be quite a strong character I think to carry it off. I'd expect a Julius to have a brother called Horatio.

I don't really like either. If I had to choose one, it would be Julius.

I don't like either, I think they both are a bit 'wet.'

I prefer Julius by a considerable margin. I think Julian is 'a bit prissy' (Famous Five-related impression, like Squoosh's).

Thanks everyone. I will probably go with Jude!

I like Julian although again I'm also reminded of the famous five. Jules is a great nickname though.
