Looking for some opinions on our boys names shortlist please! I'm 38 weeks with our first, my DH is Swedish and has a very common Swedish surname. We'd really like a Scandi name but worried about how they will be pronounced/thought of in the uk (we're uk based). Any thoughts on our top 3 would be really helpful as I'm still so unsure, especially about Gus which I love but not so keen on Gustav...

Gustav (Gus)
Niklas
Kristof

They're quite trendy where we live.

I know a Magnus, two Larses, a Kaspar, a Piers, an Eric, an Ulrik and an Anders.

Do any of those appeal?

Bit less keen on Niklas but love Gustav and Kristov.

All would be fine in the UK, particularly the last two. Certainly not run-of-the-mill but not odd of difficult. Personally, I like Gustav; it sounds rather distinguished.
In Scotland, 'Gus' is a nn for boys named Angus, Fergus or Magnus .... And Magnus would give you 'Gus' if you don't like Gustav.

I'm wrong! Casper wasn't on my list as it's DS1's middle name, oops!

Really like Gustav - as florscotia says it's quite distinguished and elegant sounding, and Gus is a great nickname. Also like Magnus if you're not sold on Gustav.

Niklas and Kristof are both good too, but I can actually see you having more issues with these than Gustav spelling and pronunciation-wise - they're more familiar, so people in the UK will assume they're the same as Nicholas and Christoph(er). I'm a teacher, and in my experience it tends to be names that are similar but not quite the same as 'standard' British ones that are most often misspelled/mispronounced - e.g. Aleksandr/Alexander; Emilia/Amelia. People seem to pay more attention if the name is more obviously non-British, rather than making lazy assumptions.

Kristopher is a nice Swedish boys name, I dated a Kristopher when I was 16 and he was super gorgeous! x

Thanks everyone, great that Gustav seems to be a winner I really wasn't sure! I love Caspar/Casper but a close friend already has one so that's off the table. Magnus is a possibility, I'm going to run it past DH. Thank you!

Stellan, Magnus, and Espen are all fantastic. I like Larsh too.

I would shy away from Kristoff, because of the Frozen film!

In order of preference:

Kristof is lovely
Niklas - I think would have spelling problems
Gustav - don't like this, sorry
