I don't get it? Confused They're fairly standard names aren't they?

LauraChant · 20/08/2014 15:01

Are you saying they are odd names or nice ones? They don't sound that odd to me - I know two little Hamishs and a Violet!

I do remember being in a London park and hearing "IAGO! Put your coat on!" which made me laugh because I imagined the Shakespeare villain. Like hearing "Macbeth! Here's your icecream!"

AliciaBotty · 20/08/2014 15:03

Nothing to get. It's not a riddle. Just thought they were nice names, little bit different and thought it'd be fun to post them and see what lovely names other people have heard on their travels.

I'm constantly amazed that I never meet Amelias or Jacks.

Confused.......

ThatBloodyWoman · 20/08/2014 15:05

The names I usually hear in the skate park are,

Cunt, and
Wanker.

Or at least thats what everyone seems to call everyone else.....

AliciaBotty · 20/08/2014 15:06

Oh I see. You thought I was suggesting they were strange? Not at all. I was just sitting on my picnic blanket thinking how nice it was to hear lots of names which, whilst not weird or rare, are not run-of-the-mill.

Sorry - I've 'got it' now (my brain has gone to sleep over the summer!) Yes, lovely names and not boring at all.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 20/08/2014 15:14

My cousin's children are Amelia and jack!

eatscakefornoreasonwhatsoever · 20/08/2014 15:15

I heard Rudy the other day. (girl)

Emmeline. Floyd. Quite a few unusual ones round here.

Reepits · 20/08/2014 15:17

Months ago there where 4 Archie's all under 4 in one play area with only 10 children in total.

Archie's and Alfie with be those names that pinpoint a decade like Tracy and Sharon.

thornrose · 20/08/2014 15:19

Oh sorry Blush it's a bit bad that I can't just take a thread at face value anymore. I may have been here too long!

MagnificentMaleficent · 20/08/2014 15:20

Hebe
Rudy - boy

Both nice and a bit different.

Olive and oliver - brother and sister

Ruaridh
Jacob
Ennis
Sam
Jack (x3)
Alfie
Gordon (absolutely gorgeous little boy, really suited his name and gave flowers to every little girl in the playground)
Aiden (x2)
Isla and Mirren (siblings)

This was in a busy playground at the weekend south of Edinburgh. Smile

insanityscratching · 20/08/2014 15:26

Elsie, Constance and Flossie (Florence) made me smile because they were my Auntie's names born around a century ago.
Melanie and Jason (brother and sister) also made me smile because they were popular when I was at school and their mum was young enough to be my daughter.

VanitasVanitatum · 20/08/2014 15:28

Darcy and Rafferty, siblings. Love Darcy, not sure on Rafferty..

LauraChant · 20/08/2014 15:38

It was trendy East London, tobeabat, if that helps? Grin

I was in trendy East London too - wonder if it was the same park? I'm always guaranteed some good name-spotting there.

I met a toddler Geoffrey last week. Really suited his name.

LauraChant · 20/08/2014 15:47

This was the trendy East London park with a lido, a paddling pool and two playgrounds, and a nearby cupcake bakery. But we also used to patronise the much larger one with the Pavilion cafe, a lake with a fountain and death-defying slides.

Actually I have no idea why I am being so coy as we have moved now anyway - London Fields and Victoria Park. I miss them so.

LingDiLong · 20/08/2014 15:53

Iago is common in Wales, it's welsh for James! I love it but couldn't get past the shakesperian associations

Atticus
Loads of Theos
Emmanuel

MagnificentMaleficent · 20/08/2014 16:06

Just remembered when we were in Devon and saw a school trip

"Maximus hold hands with Saturn"

Now there's a couple of names to live up to Smile

AliciaBotty · 20/08/2014 16:10

I hope this doesn't become a "weird names" thread. That wasn't my intention. Just thought it'd be interesting to see what's out there in real-life!

It's easy on MN to think half the children are called Lily and Alfie and the other half Persephone and Iago when the reality might be somewhere in between...
