Matilda followed by Annabel - spelled this way!

Meredith, not keen.

Meredith, Matilda then Annabel.

Annabelle/Annabel reminds me of the Baby Annabelle doll. Nothing wrong with that, but I would prefer Anna.

Annabel. Pretty. Doesnt need to be shortened, but if you want to there are lovely options-Anna/Annie/Belle/Bella.

Matilda is ok.

Really not keen on Meredith. Sounds wet, to me.

Definitely Meredith for me - I think the opposite of Bowlersarm - to me it sounds strong and not overly girly.

Matilda is nice but its current popularity would bother me.

Annabel I think of as being a bit frilly and horsey-sounding. Like Anna/Anya though.

Annabelle

Not Meredith - brings to mind Meredith kercher. The others are pretty

Meredith. Definitely.

Mathilda is too popular
Annabelle is too girly

The only drawback for Meredith for me is that far from it being a wet girly name, my Welsh speaking friend says that is a very butch man's name in Wales Shock.

Not keen on Meredith. Matilda, then Annabel.

Meredith is one of my favourite names. I think it sounds strong and no-nonsense.

It has been resigned to middle name for my daughter though since DH vetoed for first name.

I also like Matilda.

I love Meredith and it was on my short list for DD.

Meredith!

Matilda too popular. Annabel is OK.

Meredith sounds grown up and lush!

Meredith. I like the other two (Matilda more) but they are popular and Meredith would make me sit up and take notice! Merry is a nice nn when little.

Annabelle
Matilda
Meredith

Just my order of preference . I think Anna is a lovely nn too

Meredith!
So pretty, and not common.
Matilda an Annabelle are so overused now...

Genuine question - how would you pronounce 'Meredith' for a girl?

Welsh Mumsnetters will put me right, I'm sure, but I think the Welsh boy's name is approx 'Merr-EDD-eth'.

Annabel (that spelling) rather nice. Amabel even nicer, IMHO.
Just personal taste, but I'm not over keen on Matilda.

HolgerDanske · 20/08/2014 12:29

As far as I know the pronunciation is exactly the same for a girl.

scarletforya · 20/08/2014 12:33

Annabelle by far.

Matilda is very popular, so there'll be a few in each class.

Meredith is unpleasant sounding. I don't like the 'death' sound in it.

UnrelatedToElephants · 20/08/2014 12:45

Annabel is nicer.

Legionofboom · 20/08/2014 12:46

I like all 3 but Meredith would be my first choice. I find it both gentle and strong at the same time.

Annabelle is quite a bit more frilly and girly than the other two.

Matilda is the most 'trendy' of the three with it's sudden rise to popularity in recent years but it is still a solid name.

I love Annabel and, in fact baby (due in 8 weeks) will be called this although spelt Annabel not Annabelle.

I like Matilda nn.Tilly but it I quite "in" at the moment but not necessarily a problem.

Really not keen on Meredith at all.

I really like Annabel but with that spelling. I find annabelle a bit too frilly

I love Meredith, Merry for short when little. I would definitely have gone with that it we didn't have a "th" surname. Matilda is incredibly popular atm- I can think of 3 off the top of my head. Annabel I'm not sure is "state school proof", as my American friend would say.

Meredith appears to be something of a marmite name, I hadn't realised this would be the case.

You either love it or hate it. I love it.
