Baby names

Please help with boys names!

Baby no 3 due any day now (already have 2 DSs) and we are sorted for a girls name but struggling for a boys name.

I seem to like more names than DH. Tried giving him my list of 10 favourites and asked for his. He responded with one of the names on my list, ie he only seems to have one name up for consideration! (The name is Thomas and we both love Tom/Tommy. My only reservation is it being potentially too popular as I believe it was at no 6 for 2013).

Please can you help with any other suggestions to inspire DH to consider other options?! We both like strong, classic and/or older man's names. We also seem to like names that have shortened versions. I have this niggling feeling I'm missing the obvious choice for us!

Names we can't use (but do like):

Edward
James
George
Joseph
Freddie
Alfie
Charles/Charlie

Henry
Harry
Samuel
William

I think Thomas is lovely too & really wouldn't worry too much about popularity!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I do like Theo but one of my closest friends has a Theo and I see her quite a lot, so might feel a bit strange.
Should have put Matthew and Jonathan on the list of names we can't use, sorry (close family members). Do like Matthew for a middle name though.

Also like Patrick but less keen on Pat/Paddy.

LOVE Henry and William (and love Billy/Will). DH likes them but doesn't seem to love them enough which I'm gutted about. Surname also begins with a C - is "WC" a no go?!

Also like Samuel/Sam and Robbie/Bobby but DH vetoed the former as it's his best mate's son's name and he didn't seem keen on the latter.

I feel like I'm suffering from name blindness after trawling through the top 1000 boys names! (Let's hope this one's a girl!!!)

Sorry, just realised you said you couldn't have a Joe. I couldn't either and five years and two boys later it still rankles

Alex / Alexander?

Thanks Shocking Smile
Joe/Joey is a great name, also wish I could use it!
Arthur (Artie) is actually my joint favourite with Henry. Again DH likes but doesn't love. Such a shame as I think both go perfectly with DS1 and DS2's names. Also DS1 wants a Henry!

I can see I am just going to have to accept this is a Tom/Tommy at this rate as it does seem to be the only remaining boys name DH loves. I have always loved the name too, but whilst I am not totally hung up on popularity, I have noticed myself bristling slightly when hearing DS2's name relatively frequently at the park etc (it's been top 10-20 for a while). And I guess Thomas is the type of classic name that will always be popular...(albeit I only know two locally at the moment).

God I'm useless.
Alex/Alexander also on the can't use list (already a middle name for one of my DSs)

Well, if it helps, I still regret not calling DS2 Thomas... I loved it and still do (I like Tommy for a nn, it's got a fab Edwardian flavour to me). Couldn't convince DP though and now we have one of the Rus mentioned upthread...

Thanks shocking. Perhaps my situation is not helped by the fact that I (well both of us) LOVE our girls name choice and it is both beautiful/pretty and slightly unusual. Which seems to make the boys choice seem a bit dull in comparison? Whereas if I take a step back I know Thomas/Tom/Tommy is a great name and one I will always like. Maybe I am thrashing around for a boys version of our girls choice, but it doesn't exist (and we don't seem to go for unusual boys names in general, and they wouldn't really "go" with our DSs' names).

If you don't mind sharing, what's the girl's option? It might inspire something for a boy.

Has Daniel been suggested yet?

I do like Thomas BTW, and only know a couple of little Tom's here, unlike the 10+ William's (of which I have one).

I am in the same situation expecting DC3 and not really sure where to go next coming up with a third boy's name. Mind you not too sure about a girl's name either. My DH won't discuss it until about 38wks plus which doesn't help.

Kantha our girls choice is Mariella.
Smile

Thank you for also helping me to want Thomas a bit more!

Slightly randomly (in the sense it doesn't fit with my other boys favourites) I do love Elijah. Big fat no from DH! He is also difficult to pin down to a discussion on names until last minute. So frustrating when you'd just like to have it sorted so you can concentrate on getting your head round pushing another baby out!
