How is it pronounced? Is it mar-lay-na? If so the usual spelling is Marlena I think.

I like it - very classic, as in Dietrich.

Makes me think of Marlaaaaaane from only fools and horses. . . Make of that what you will! :)

I like it. Is it the same name as Suzanne Vega's Marlene on the Wall?

Report
hollyisalovelyname · 17/08/2014 19:42

Marielle is nicer.

I like Marlena - there's a great Suzanne vega song called Marlena on the wall. It's classic, and pretty. It would be on my list for a dd!

I read it as Mariana, which is quite nice. Marlana is not nice at all, I just think of Marlene from only fools too.

I know one, in her 20's. She pronounces it Mar-lay-na

Mar-laar-na sounds like contraception.

Mar-ley-na is nice. Smile

I'd spell it Marlene, like The Suzanne Vega song. Its lovely.

GrapefruitILoveIt · 18/08/2014 13:55

Not good. I agree it sounds like a contraceptive.

GrapefruitILoveIt · 18/08/2014 13:56

Marlene better.

FreckledLeopard · 18/08/2014 13:57

Also think of Only Fools and Horses. Sorry.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2014 17:35

If you spell it Marlene it will be pronounced Marleen.

I like it pronounced Marlayna (as in Dietrich) but I would spell it Marlena just to avoid 'Marleen'.
However, I think there will be people pronouncing it Marleena in that case.

I know one Mariana, her Dad is Portuguese, I think it might be more common in Catholic countries.

I know a Marlene, Germany family, and when I saw it written down at first I kept want to say Marleeeeeen

It's pronounced Mar-ley-ne

It sounds pretty, and I think it is appropriate for all ages!

It can also be spelled Marlayne.
