They are all very nice names. Put them with your last name and check no embarassing combination of initials!

They're all lovely names, but just a little bit too popular, especially Isabel.

I have an amelia and although its said to be popular i haven't yet met another amelia but thats sure to change when she joins school maybe but i also like Sophie grace as its got a soft elegant sound to it, Sophia Grace is also nice. I love Isobel also, the reason these names are popular are because they are so nice so bear that in mind! Sometimes trying to find a name simply because its not overused veers you away fromnames that you truly love and truly loving a name regardless of how many other children are called it is more important in the long run!

fashion does have something to do with it though, doesn't it?

There seem to be far more Amelias atm (and I do know several tiny ones) than I knew at school or uni (one, out of hundreds of girls), for example. It was equally pretty in the 70s as it is now, but just didn't get used much.

I like the names. Popularity, etc isn't something that ever concerned me - I just chose names I liked.

DD was to be called Oliver had she been a boy.

My dd has a traditional fairly plain name. When she was born it was a year when the name was extremely popular. Fast forward 8 years (we have since moved from Scotland to England) and she is the only person in her class with the name.

Go with what you want is what I am trying to say regardless of whether or not it is hugely popular.

yeah, but if you know what you want to call your kid, you don't need to ask for everyone's opinions about it on MN do you?

I know what you mean but it is good to get feedback, i had family sneering at my choice first time round and it made me unsure, a long thread later on here and i got so much feedback that was positive that it made it definite in my head plus perked me up! I like the fact total strangers are honest with no family bickering or longstanding grudges invoved!!

bungaloo - your favourite names are exactly the same as mine spooky!!

I have some more - William as a middle name [my OH's grandfathers name]or first name if cut short to Will, Edward but cut short to Eddie, Charles but cut short to Charlie, I like cheeky names for boys...
For girls - Scarlet, Saffron [as a middle name], Jasmine & Rebecca, I really really like Rebecca as a top choice.

they're all very popular atm, but if you don't mind that, then great - they're all nice names.

Edward is my favourite obviously ... - shortened to Teddy or Ted
DD would have been Oliver if she was a boy ... but was also going to be Rose or Rosie. When she was 24 hours old I had a complete change around and named her Abigail instead (Abi to her friends) A nice traditional name without being as popular as Amelia, Sophie, Charlotte, Rosie, Isabel (also ones I like - well, Rosie and Isabel in particular)
My dad put me off Isabel when I was thinking of names though, because when I mentioned it he said, "Hmmmm, Isabel necessary on a bicycle?" grrrrrr ... still love the name though

hi

i think all the names sound lovely and i think its great that you have shared your names with mumsnet after all it is a big decision. I am due on the 21.10.06 and my partner and i have decided to call our baby Jack with the middle name Anthony. if he was a girl though we would have called her Katie and Hannah as the middle name.

good luck with your name choice

Marie

Lolabelle thats exactly why we told NOONE what we wanted to call dd. We got asked 1000's of times by friends but only dh & I knew..That made it special as it was our secret. Also I didn't want the comment from people when you gave them your siggestion.." Oh I knew a x and she was a right cow" or " Oh I hate that name" or " x..mmmm..unusual...". So when dd was born dh & I said, "this is dd and she is called x". We were met with "ah isn't she lovely and what a lovely name" LOL, god knows what they thought of her name BUT they NEVER said a word to our faces and tough..! It's our choice and it's her name.!!!

We are expecting again (ds this time) and we are doing the same again.

People can be so opinionated and don't realise it..

Good luck whatever name you choose, like others have said it's your ds/dd and your choice of name. xx

All very nice names, but I would give them a cheekier middle name.

I have an Oliver. It is alarmingly popular in certain circles, more so than we'd realised. But it hasn't hit the top 50 or anything.
