Baby names

We can't decide on a girls name!

I love Sylvie but DH hates it.

He likes Ruby or Holly - I don't particularly love or hate either of these.

The only name we both like is Olivia but next door neighbour just used this so that's out!!

Any suggestions? I have spent hours looking at names but can't find anything I love. Help!!

We couldn't decide on a girls name either despite being certain on a boys name from 9 weeks pregnant!

Is it definitely a girl? We were not going to find out but accidentally did at the 20 week scan, solved the problem as it was a boy anyway Grin

Some ideas which I feel are similar to the ones you mention:

Evie
Evelyn
Hollie (yeah, I know it's just a different spelling!)
Rose

Okay they're pretty lame suggestions, I'm not feeling very creative!

Of all your possibilities my favourite is Holly. DD may well have been a Holly if the name hadn't already been used by one of my closest friends Grin.

I really don't like Olivia - I know plenty of people do, but it always sounds very harsh to me.

Ruby is OK - nice enough.

Sylvie is really growing on me, it's a very pretty name and I find myself liking it more each time I hear it.

Similar names are Poppy, Rosie, Lily?

I don't like any of those choices really I do think that Evelyn would be a good mix of both your styles though- think if you sold it to your OH as 'Evie' he might go for it. I had a similar problem when we were picking dd's name I like the old fashioned grandma type names and my OH liked more modern names we found dd's name was a good mix of both :)

I know your DH doesn't like Sylvie but what about Sylvia?
Penny?
Lottie?
Rachel?
Caroline?
Laura?

Good luck! DH and I have never argued so much as when we were naming DS2 Grin

Thanks for all the replies! This is our 3rd dc so you would think we'd be all sorted, but this seems to be the hardest decision we've had.

I've already suggested Evelyn as it's lovely, but DH has said no - he knows loads!! Also we know lots of Evie's including our flower girl.

This will sound silly but as much as I love Sylvie, I really dislike Sylvia. Seems ridiculous as they are so similar!

Lydia - similar sound to Olivia
Molly - rather than Holly
Ava - rather than Evie

Other less popular names with a v sound: Maeve, Avril, Niamh, Vivi (Vivienne)

Going with a French sounding name, instead of Sylivie, what about:

Elodie
Elise
Leonie (Lay on ee)
Delphine
Celeste

We loved Olivia but also Amelia? Are you very close friends to your next door neighbours? Could you use different nicknames?

I would use Olivia if it's the name you both want. By the third DC, most names are taken up by someone you know aren't they? And they may just move at some stage (or you).

Can you post your other DCs names - It might help us.

TBH I would go with Olivia.

You're right bowlersarm, all the names we liked have been used up! Definitely won't use Olivia as I feel like it's taken plus the girls will go to school together.

My dd and ds's names are very short, so think we need to have another shortish name .

Dh's latest offering is Eilidh, we are in Scotland pronunciation won't be a problem !

Ooh Paige is nice, and Joy.

Newt Eilidh is pronounced Ayley - it's Gaelic for Helen.
