Blair for a girl?

Mentioned to my mother I liked Blair for a girls name and she looked at me like I was mad. Anyone else like Blair or am I being daft?

Toni as a middle name?

It's not terrible but I do think it is a boy's name. Also you cannot get away from the Tony Blair connection. But there are so many lovely girls names it seems a bit of a waste to me. What about Blythe, or Brooke (not to my taste but maybe similar).

I love Blair for a girl!

I would like it if it weren't for Tony Blair

Oh no Op. Please don't. It's quite masculine and there's no getting away from the Tony Blair association.

Blythe is much nicer.

I think it's a boys name.

How about Claire?

Nothing wrong with the name but have you considered 'Blair Witch'

Witch project

By the way, the best known Blair was Blair Peach whose legacy is unlikely to vanish. There's a primary school named after him in Ealing.

Blair witch would be my first thought too.

I think it's awful, sorry OP.

I don't hate it but it is unusual. If you like unusual, go for it! I don't think the Tony / Witch Project connection is a huge problem really. If it were me I would just bear in mind the accents where you live and imagine it being yelled out across a playground. That's my acid test!

Awful.

I know a female Blair and I like it. Fwiw, it's a common name here in Scotland and I don't think most people think of Tone.

Truly awful. Apart from the terrible connotations with T Blair it's just awful anyway. Even for a boy.

I prefer Blake. Love it for a boy as well.

Noooooo. Its not good. And it does sound masculine anyway.

Not keen myself, Blythe is lovely, but has a very different feel.

I know a girl Blair, but it isn't a name I particularly like... You need a ton of personality to pull it off, otherwise you'll have a life time of "Blah" or "Blehhh" behind her back if she's anything less than a complete fire-cracker.

Thanks everyone, hadn't thought of the tony or witch connection tbh but doesn't bother me too much. Like that it sounds strong and is a wee bit different. Do like Claire also but not so keen on Blythe or Brooke.

I think Gossip Girl has changed it, and 25 and unders might be just as likely to make a Blair Waldorf association as any of the above.

I like Blair, and Briar too.

I just can't get away from the Tony Blair connection here.

It sounds more masculine to me, but not sure if that's because I'm thinking of Tony Blair.

Sounds noisy, like blaring.
A honking horn.
I imagine pingu's lips stretching tulip like when this name ius shouted across playground.

Very East Coast preppy. Her friends would be called Sloan and Blythe.

Are you a Gossip Girl fan? Lead girl in that is Blair.

I quite like it myself but it is all too synonymous with Tony. I quite liked Thatcher for a boy but that would come across as making a political statement via my child, so it's probably best left alone, with Margaret Thatcher being as divisive as she is.
