Help me to find a boys name I love!

We're having a boy in November, and we're stuck for names! There's plenty of boys names that I quite like but none that are setting my world on fire IYSWIM. I really want a name that I feel passionate about...

We like full names that can be shortened, the more nickname options the better.
Nothing too cutesy, nothing too 'old man'.
I'd prefer it to be a name that's easy to spell, and not toooo unusual.

Easy right?!

We like:
Alexander
James
Isaac
Jacob
Theodore
William
Oliver
Joseph

Inspire me with something? Smile

I'm watching with interest as I'm having exactly the same problem, why are boys names so hard?! My list has most of the names in your OP plus Thomas, Benjamin, Jonas and Arthur. I like all Sophronia's suggestions but nothing is jumping out as the perfect name.

Hard isn't it?!

We like Reuben too :-) (Roo to us, Ben to most!) Isaac (Zac) also, one I don't think has been suggested yet - Oscar? Shortened to Ozzy perhaps?

Probably of NO help whatsoever due to being in the same predicament lol

Ooh I also quite like Toby? I was thinking Toby with a middle name beginning with J so that "TJ" was also an option…I'm like you in terms of wanting to give him options!

I love Toby, but my BF has just called her DS that! Confused I do like Benjamin, but not a fan of Ben, which he would of course get called.

I really like Finn, but can't find a nice lengthening of it...

Fintan would be an option for Finn if you didn't like Finlay? Or finian. I also like the Irish spelling of Fionn.

Nessalina · 24/07/2014 22:03

Fionn makes me think of William Hagues wife! And DH actually laughed at Fintan Hmm
I'm going to see if I can get Finnegan onto the short list Grin

Phineas would give you the option of the Finn nn. Julia Roberts spells her sons name phinnaeus. I quite like it.

Elliott? That's my favourite boys name.

She's Ffion I think? Pronounced fee-on. Fionn is from pronounced Finn. Judi dench's daughter is Finty I think?? I know a Fintan and a Finbar and lots of Finn/Fionn/Finlay/Flynn type names. Live in Ireland though so they aren't "odd" here.

I had 3 DD, but if I'd had a boy he would have been Sam. Just really like it. Sounds like someone real.

Love Elliott, but no good shortenings, and DH thinks of it as a girls name (Scrubs fan!). Also like Elias, but again DH not a fan. I hate that he gets an opinion! Hmm

Quintan sounds like a misspelling of Quentin, and I don't love it...

Phineas is a nice sounding name, but I don't like the look of it, and it's a bugger to spell.

Grayson is nice, but v.similar to my Dad's name unfortunately.

Arg. I'm way too picky aren't I?!

Theodore is really growing on me, I like the nickname options, and it has a nice flow. Bit worried that it sounds a bit American?

You have very similar tastes to me op Smile
I have a Benjamin who gets called his full name or benji, but not Ben (although I don't mind that nickname, just prefer benji) and a Matthew who just gets called his full name at mo, but other 2 dc have decided to shorten it to math!

We're expecting dc4 in Sep and don't know the sex. so I'm looking out for boys names again, I really like alexander and Daniel, but DH apparently doesn't like any names. at all.... Hmm
