Baby names

sibling for Noah and Sophia

so we have months to go but we also spend months debating names!

We have Noah and Sophia. I love Noah as it ticked all the boxes, no nickname, easy to spell, went with surname and was unusual in Ireland at the time (it went flying up the baby names list to top 30 the year after we had him which enraged me but also taught me that i’m not as original as I thought and lack of popularity shouldn't be given as much weight as I had thought!). defo want to avoid top 10 names coz I have one and hated being one of 3 in my class. Any daughter I had was going to be Sophie from the time I was a child, have always adored it. DH preferred Sophia and as Sophie has extremely popular for about 10 years we went with Sophia and I love it more than Sophie now and don't mind too much if people call her Soph when she's older.

So I LOVE both of their names and now I need another! Although I’m not into matching names I/we seem to be drawn to names ending in an 'ah' sound and wouldn’t not use a name coz just coz it created a bit of a theme. If it's a girl I want something quite pretty and girly like Sophia.

My top choices are:
Boys:
Leo – ticks all my boxes and think it’s lovely but DH not madly keen
Luca - Would have been Sophia's name if she had been a boy, still love it but very Italian for an irish kid!

Girls:
Annabel –my absolute favourite at the moment. DH says no due to a terrible very high profile incident here 15 years ago where a teenager was killed at a club called Annabelle's. Personally I don't think that's what people will think of when they meet a little girl called Annabel.
Alannah - maybe a bit chav (or so DH says)
Phoebe - DH says no
Penelope - DH says no
Rebecca - pretty but a bit boring maybe? Hate becks or becky but Becca ok
Chloe – as above, pretty but boring?
Amaya - copied from a girl in Noah's class with a Spanish mum, too Spanish for an irish kid?
Elodie - surprisingly DH likes this one! I like that it’s unusual, pretty etc but not sure I love it. Would it be shortened to Elle/Ellie? Not mad on them.
Vivienne - but hate Viv which is inevitable
Lola – Dh says only for Russian prostitutes/transsexuals but I think it’s so pretty!
Leila/Layla – dilemma over how to spell it for a start! Not as pretty as Lola?

Any comments or other suggestions welcomed, especially boys names (and they don't have to start in L, that's a coincidence)!

Are you French / Italian OP? Just noticed some of your name choices have a continental flavour!

I lie Leo or Phoebe best with your DC's names.

Forgot to say that I really like Annabel and would never associate it with the nightclub.

Lucia sprang to mind for me too as your list does seem quite continental with Spanish and Italian names.
Amelie
Lucas - slightly different as less Italian sounding I think.
I also love Annabel and would never make that connection.

It seems you really like to have an o sound so I would go with Elodie. Chloe does not work so well with the other names. Prefer Leo to Luca.

Elodie.

Beautiful name. Smile Melodic and lovely. Failing that Rebecca. A wonderful choice and goes very well with Noah (which I love btw). I know a Rebecca 'Becca' and a Rebecca 'Bess' (she didn't like Becs) and a Rebecca who goes by a completely different nn.

Noah, Sophia and Rachel
Noah, Sophia and Leonie
Noah, Sophia and Lara
Noah, Sophia and Fiona
Noah, Sophia and Helena
Noah, Sophia and Madeleine
Noah, Sophia and Clara
Noah, Sophia and Genevieve
Noah, Sophia and Claudia
Noah, Sophia and Eliza
Noah, Sophia and Mirabel or Maribel (Puerto Rican name, variant of Mary)

Noah, Sophia and Leo -- I love this too
Noah, Sophia and Isaac
Noah, Sophia and Henry
Noah, Sophia and Ronan
Noah, Sophia and Daniel
Noah, Sophia and Joseph
Noah, Sophia and Luke or Lucas (not Luca -- yes I think too Italian)
Noah, Sophia and Benjamin
Noah, Sophia and Oliver
Noah, Sophia and Louis (pr Loo-ee not Lewis)

I like all your names except Amaya, Lola (the diminutive is Lolita not a Russian prostitute but a character from Nabokov's book 'Lolita', and Lola itself is a diminutive of Dolores, meaning sorrow, which is a bit sad) and Elodie sounds to me as if it is missing an M. And I think Luca is too Italian.

Annabel is just perfect with Sophia and Noah, say no more about it until two minutes after she's born then declare her name x

thanks girls,

it's so hard. I think Luca is absolutely gorgeous, just as gorgeous as Noah and Sophia. I love Leo but it's just not the same I think. But Luca is quite unusual for a little irish boy I guess. AAAHHHHH!

at the moment i'm leaning towards Rebecca or Annabel for a girl I think. I really like Phoebe too but don't think i'd be able to convince DH.

WoW I love Rosa but my cousin has a Rosa so wouldn't use it. going off Elodie, think it's beautiful but am certain it would become Elle, DH calls Noah Nosey even though I was certain there are no nicknames! and likewise I think Vivienne would become Viv.

i'm sure i'll be back on here before baby arrives, so confusing!
