so we have months to go but we also spend months debating names!
We have Noah and Sophia. I love Noah as it ticked all the boxes, no nickname, easy to spell, went with surname and was unusual in Ireland at the time (it went flying up the baby names list to top 30 the year after we had him which enraged me but also taught me that i’m not as original as I thought and lack of popularity shouldn't be given as much weight as I had thought!). defo want to avoid top 10 names coz I have one and hated being one of 3 in my class. Any daughter I had was going to be Sophie from the time I was a child, have always adored it. DH preferred Sophia and as Sophie has extremely popular for about 10 years we went with Sophia and I love it more than Sophie now and don't mind too much if people call her Soph when she's older.
So I LOVE both of their names and now I need another! Although I’m not into matching names I/we seem to be drawn to names ending in an 'ah' sound and wouldn’t not use a name coz just coz it created a bit of a theme. If it's a girl I want something quite pretty and girly like Sophia.
My top choices are:
Boys:
Leo – ticks all my boxes and think it’s lovely but DH not madly keen
Luca - Would have been Sophia's name if she had been a boy, still love it but very Italian for an irish kid!
Girls:
Annabel –my absolute favourite at the moment. DH says no due to a terrible very high profile incident here 15 years ago where a teenager was killed at a club called Annabelle's. Personally I don't think that's what people will think of when they meet a little girl called Annabel.
Alannah - maybe a bit chav (or so DH says)
Phoebe - DH says no
Penelope - DH says no
Rebecca - pretty but a bit boring maybe? Hate becks or becky but Becca ok
Chloe – as above, pretty but boring?
Amaya - copied from a girl in Noah's class with a Spanish mum, too Spanish for an irish kid?
Elodie - surprisingly DH likes this one! I like that it’s unusual, pretty etc but not sure I love it. Would it be shortened to Elle/Ellie? Not mad on them.
Vivienne - but hate Viv which is inevitable
Lola – Dh says only for Russian prostitutes/transsexuals but I think it’s so pretty!
Leila/Layla – dilemma over how to spell it for a start! Not as pretty as Lola?
Any comments or other suggestions welcomed, especially boys names (and they don't have to start in L, that's a coincidence)!
