like Edward but not Edward!

I'm posting for my sister, they like Edward but not the nn that go. They prefer traditional, not bothered by popularity necessarily as they want a name they like. They like James and George but can't have. They also like Athol, Alistair, Matthew, Andrew....you get the idea?
Your help will be appreciated!

How did Athol get into their list of bog-standard names? I'm intrigued!

If they like Athol they might also like Blair (Scottish joke).

More Scottish classics = Donald, Dougal/Dugald, Rory/Ruari, Duncan, Charles, Magnus, Fergus ...

Back to general English-language classics, there is also:
Paul, Stephen, Laurence, Michael, Jonathan, Adam, Mark/Marcus, Arthur, Albert, Walter

Thanks Flora, They quite like Blair too. I'll pass these on.

Curious which nicknames they don't like?!

My Edward goes by 'Dward (rhymes with hard) to the family, and Edwina whenever he needs a haircut…..

Just go with Edward then!

My ds has a name with many popular diminutives. He is only ever known by his name. - it's never shortened.
